Mission Statement

The director, producer, and many other people behind this project are women. The topics in this film are universally experienced and we believe all kinds of people can connect to them. We are committed to making this production inclusive to people of every background and identity on and off screen.

The Story

63 Miles Away is based fifteen years in the future, when many of the issues we have in our world today are amplified. Jobs conveniently located close to your family are harder to find and schools often shut down due to under-funding. In this world, it’s normal for parents to commute hours into the city to not only work, but to buy groceries and resources that are unavailable outside of cities. The price of essentials, especially food has gone up and leaves the two main characters, Ryland (12) and Aiden (8) alone to find ways to provide for themselves.

Their mom Nina commutes two and a half hours in heavy traffic to her job as a nurse in a city hospital. The film highlights a few days in the life of these kids and how they're affected by the economic issues facing our schools, cities and families today.

This film is inspired by many relevant issues in our society today. Some topics include the under funding in schools and lack of affordable resources and housing. These issues affect families directly, and create a difficult environment for a single mom to find a well paying job close to home. This leaves the kids to live independently and take care of themselves. Overall, we see a glimpse into a world that seems to be slowly falling apart.
