Mission Statement
The movie was produced mostly by young latin women from Ecuador, a country without film industry. It is the result of the committment with social justice of a group of professionals . We used all the skills developed by what we call "cine guerrilla" in order to tell this story.About The Project

In September of 2016 I started shooting my first film as director: Azulesturquesas. The first time I thought about making the movie was in 2009. The first script was ready in 2010. Two years earlier, I was released from one of two rehabilitation centers where I spent several months. During the script writing process, I was recovering from the physical and psychological abuse I experienced there. I was also outraged about losing two trials I started against the directors of those centers.
It was a great achievement to start shooting the movie years later. Ever since I had the idea of making the movie until the day I started shooting, I tried to fund the project in all the possible ways, but I did not have results. However, I really needed to talk about what happened inside the rehabilitation centers facilities, even more considering that despite some governmental inspections in the last years, many of them were still operating with total impunity. There are torture practices in those places. In many cases, the patients never gave their consent to be there and/or they do not suffer from drug abuse. It is just that their families do not accept their behavior due to very conservative social environments.
I received the strength I needed to make the film from the people that believed in the project and supported me. I used all the means of what we call “cine guerrilla”. The production process itself lasted one month. By the time it started, several professionals in filmmaking and acting had joined me. Most of them have not received any compensation so far. They were moved by their commitment with social justice and their generosity. For all of us, this was one of the most moving experiences we have had in our careers.
I have been an actress for 15 years. I used all my experience and knowledge to both direct and act in this movie. This is my first feature as director. The funds from the crowdfunding are going to be used to finance the original music and postproduction of the movie, as well as to pay for some of the pending expenses of the production.
En septiembre del año 2016 rodé mi primera película: Azulesturquesas. Tuve la idea siete años antes, en el 2009, y terminé un primer guión en el 2010. Para entonces habían transcurrido dos años desde que salí de dos centros de rehabilitación en los que permanecí por algunos meses. Durante la escritura del primer guión, estaba trabajando en recuperarme de situaciones de abuso físico y emocional que viví en esos centros, y cargaba con la enorme indignación de perder los dos juicios que les había puesto.
Empezar el rodaje de la película años después era un gran logro. Desde que tuve la idea hasta el inicio del rodaje intenté financiarla por todos los medios pero tuve tan solo resultados muy parciales. De todas formas, la necesidad de contar lo que pasa en esos centros nunca dejó de ser enorme, más aún sabiendo que a pesar de cierta intervención por parte del Estado en años más recientes, muchos siguen funcionando con impunidad. Además, quienes administraron algunos de los centros ya clausurados nunca fueron sancionados. Estos centros son encierros donde hay prácticas de tortura. La mayoría de pacientes no llega por voluntad propia y está por algún comportamiento que su familia o el mismo centro se tomó la potestad de juzgar como inadecuado.
Fortalecida y respaldada por muchas personas que creyeron en este proyecto, me arriesgué a rodar esta película usando todas las formas de cine guerrilla que estuvieran a mi alcance. El rodaje duró un mes. Se habían sumado para entonces profesionales del cine y la actuación, la mayoría de quienes hasta ahora no han recibido ninguna compensación monetaria. Fue un esfuerzo colaborativo hecho con convicción, generosidad y profesionalismo y ha quedado grabado en todxs como una de las experiencias más arduas pero emotivas de nuestras carreras.
He sido actriz por 15 años. Usé toda mi experiencia y conocimiento para dirigir y actuar en esta película. Este es mi primer largometraje como directora. El dinero recaudado en este crowdfunding servirá para financiar la música y postproducción de la película, así como para cubrir pagos que quedaron pendientes de la producción (sonido, trabajo de producción, asistencia de dirección, fotografía y maquillaje).

Azulesturquesas team is conformed by several generations of filmmaking and acting professionals. That is one of the most valuable things about the team.Monica Mancero (Isabella), director and protagonist, has been acting for film, TV and theater for 15 years. Azulesturquesas is her first feature as director and screenwriter, but she has years of experience in dramaturgy. This is her second feature as an actress. Her debut as actress in a feature film was Quijotes Negros (2015), directed by Sandino Burbano, where she was the protagonist. Quijotes Negros won several international awards in Latin America, the United States and Europe.
Paúl Gallegos, photography director, is a long-time professional in the field. Currently, he is the executive director at Patacón Pictures. Gallegos has directed the photography for feature films, feature documentaries and video clips. One of the last documentaries he has directed the photography for is Estación Polar (directed by David Holguín, 2018). The documentary will be premiered in the International Documentary Festival EDOC.

Andrea Miño is both director and editor. Her titles include the award winning feature film Quijotes Negros (directed by Sandino Burbano, 2015) and the feature documentary Criszamver (directed by Eduardo Fabio Henríquez, 2018) to be premiered in May in the International Documentary Festival EDOC. Miño is a creator committed with LGBTQ rights. She supports the work of several LGBTQ organizations in Ecuador.

Annie Rosenfeld (Alegría, patient in the rehabilitation center) is actress, composer and TV and theater producer. Paty Loor (Lorena, patient in the rehabilitation center) has a long term career as actress and TV shows host, being a familiar face for people in Ecuador.

Monica Mancero (Isabella), directora y protagonista, ha actuado para cine, televisión y teatro durante 15 años. Azulesturquesas es su primer largometraje como directora y guionista, pero tiene años de experiencia en dramaturgia. Este es su segundo largometraje como actriz. Su debut como actriz de largometraje fue Quijotes Negros (2015), dirigida por Sandino Burbano, donde fue la protagonista. Quijotes Negros ganó varios premios internacionales en América Latina, Estados Unidos y Europa.
Paúl Gallegos, director de fotografía, es un profesional de larga trayectoria en este campo. Actualmente, es el director ejecutivo de Patacón Pictures. Gallegos ha dirigido la fotografía de películas, documentales y videoclips. Uno de los últimos documentales para los que trabajó fue Estación Polar (dirigida por David Holguín, 2018). El documental se estrenará en el Festival Internacional de Documentales EDOC.
