LULU is part one of a series of intersecting stories that make up BLACKTOP ROAD, the debut FEATURE film from writer/director CHINA MORBOSA. This gritty short film follows a cast of misfits as they make their way across the Southwest.

Mission Statement

We feel strongly that it is important to support filmmaking told from diverse points of view, and Blacktop Road is a film by a team of female filmmakers. Additionally, this film questions societal roles for women both on and off the screen.

Camera and Lenses

Costs $5,000

We are looking to shoot on the Alexa Mini, using vintage lenses to get that 70s look.

Art Department

Costs $2,000

We need to rent picture cars and build some props to enhance our locations.

Crew

Costs $8,500

We will be calling in favors but will need a steadycam op, DP and gaffer.

Travel and Living Expenses

Costs $1,500

Food and lodging for cast and crew in the desert.

Lighting and Gear

Most of the film takes place outdoors but we will need to rent lights for interior scenes.

Wardrobe

We have wardrobe department volunteers but will need to rent some items and buy multiples of others.

About This Team

China Morbosa is a filmamker and visual artist originally hailing from New Mexico. Blaktop Road is her first feature film.

 

Rhianon Jones is writer, director and producer. Her production company, Neon Heart Productions, focuses on helping female filmmakers get their projects made.

 

Brianna Gonzales is a producer and production designer who has worked with the likes of Peaches and Magaret Cho.
