Story
Mission Statement
When I was 15 my mother was diagnosed with an advanced stage of breast cancer. When I was 41, I put together the outfit she would be laid to rest in. This film is for anyone who has lost a loved one and has tried to adjust to a new normal way of living in the surreal days following their passing.About The Project
We have reached our initial goal of $20,500!!
We’re blown away by your support and for believing in us and in this film. The truth is, we weren’t expecting to reach our minimum funding target so quickly.
We could still use some help reaching our stretch goals! These will help us make the BEST film possible. Here is what we can achieve with your support:
Bridge. is a short film about 15-year-old Bridgette Weiland aka Bridge, who in preparation for her mother’s funeral, takes it upon herself to put together her mother’s last outfit.
In the days leading up to her mother’s funeral, Bridge and her family experience waves of grief. But through magical realistic elements, Bridgette is able to see and feel her mother’s presence in the ordinary every day thus making her stronger. By the film's end, Bridgette emerges as a capable young adult and in essence the bridge connecting her family members during this difficult time.
The idea for this story came about when I was assembling my own mother’s burial outfit. Anyone who knew my mother saw that her clothes were an extension of her unique personality. From that experience, I was inspired to tell a story that illustrates the quiet, unseen moments that are entwined with surreal moments in the immediate aftermath of losing a loved one.
“No art passes our conscience the way film does, and goes directly to our feelings, deep down into the dark rooms of our souls.”
- Ingmar Bergman, iconic Swedish filmmakerThe tragedy and the surrealness surrounding death and loss is a universal concept that can speak to us all. Cinema can be a powerful therapeutic medium that engages an audience – visually and audibly while triggering an emotional experience.
Through Bridge. my hope is to give the audience a therapeutic experience. Where the viewer can create connections between themselves and the film’s protagonists - putting themselves in the characters' shoes. Thus helping them process some of their hardest-to-reach feelings surrounding grief and loss.
As we emerge from the collective trauma experienced by the global pandemic, I can't think of a better time for some collective healing; than going to the movies and sharing a collective visceral experience.
The cast and crew aligned with this film are visual storytellers who have a great passion for their work and craft. Many of us have worked together on other projects and some of those projects have gone onto screen around the country and the world.
Check out some of the crew’s accomplishments below:
Short films don’t make money. But they can allow filmmakers to tell stories that push the limits creatively and visually.
Bridge. not only tells a tale about grief and loss but it includes elements of magical realism to elevate the mindset of Bridgette and all that she’s experiencing at that moment in her life.
Currently, the script is locked, actors have been cast, locations have been secured, and we are ready to shoot the film.
We are seeking patronage to cover the costs of the production phase. This is the part of the process where the film gets physically made. Once the photography wraps, the necessary elements are there to craft the story editorially.
With that said, we are a fiscally sponsored production through the support of From the Heart Productions. That means we have nonprofit status, so any financial contribution can be a tax write-off.
Nearly half of the funds raised during this campaign will pay the cast and crew. The other half will provide the necessary tools to make it. This includes camera equipment, lights, props, meals, transportation, and finally, covid testing to ensure everyone’s safety.
SHARE, TAG, COMMENT, POST -- Yes, it really matters big time!!!

Once the film is complete, we will screen it for backers in Washington, D.C. and in New York. The film will also exhibit on the film festival circuit. Simultaneously, I would like to use the film as a discussion tool to be used at bereavement camps for youth who are grieving the death of a significant person in their lives.
A lot goes into making a movie and your support allows us to do that. We are forever grateful for your help!
