Story
Mission Statement
This is a woman focused piece, written by a woman about one of the most difficult situations a woman will ever have to be in. It is focused in the aftermath of a crisis & the choice made. This is a simple piece in hopes to continue to show a light on the struggles of mental health & women's health.About The Project
The Story:
After a traumatising miscarriage a woman contemplates her life.
A human, a woman, struggling to live with the trauma of a significant loss. Something most people can relate to, but one of the most common tragedies, is rarely openly discussed in an unbiased way; miscarriages. As a predominantly female team we think having a female topic seen through female eyes are important and doesn't happen enough. This piece is simple but with a powerful message.
This is a short film story about a woman's relationship with life after having some devastating circumstances happen in quick succession. She's had a miscarriage and is told she can longer have children, she falls into depression. She doesn't know how to deal with this and contemplates suicide.
Importance to Our Team:
This topic is very personal to me and to several members on our team.
We each have either dealt with mental health or womens health issues if not both. Telling this particular story merges the battle in a visual way for both issues. Mental health is still stigmatised in the world and it needs to continue to be discussed. Women's health issues in many parts of the world are dismissed or under-educated. When you bring these two situations together and the help is limited, stigmatised or not represented in a safe space, we arrive at a crisis many women past and present face. The concept behind this piece was not as a commentary on either but to show a light on a crisis, a single and all to relatable moment for many women. This story or something like it happens all too often for it to not have been represented in a safe perspective.
Why It is Important:
We want to represent women in reality, real reality from a woman's perpective.
This idea that we are broken, damaged after a medical problem, a miscarriage in Contemplate specifically is a relatable conversation. We want to have this conversation in a safe space and represent these conditions in a realistic capacity. We need your contributions to change that, to continue to change the perception of women in film. We need your help, because this is for everyone, to show that everyone can and should be represented in the media at any stage in life.
How and why It is important to you:
You can help by investing to our campaign for Contemplate.
If you contribute, you help spread awareness about the struggle within women’s health both mental and physical through our film. In our film the theme of struggle is ever present so as to present the commonality with miscarriages, mental health and medical conditions are all common but not presented in an accessible and relatable way in film. In reality, according to statistics 1 in 8 pregnancies end in miscarriage and possibly with a similar conversation like this, which means you probably know someone who had this situation in their lives.
We are asking you to help us create this film so that we can present an unbiased female perspective on something that happens to women all too often, and that shouldn't be brushed aside.
Covid Policy:
The Safety and Health of our Cast and Crew is Vital.
We are keeping the cast, crew to a minimum to have the most impact but to also be Covid aware. Everyone is vaccinated if not boosted and must pass a test before filming. We are crowdfunding because we believe in this story and in the arts and that they can come back stronger, wth more stories to tell from the pandemic.
Our Promise (*or at least our Best Hope):
Health is for all and should be for all, full stop.
We want people to get involved and speak up because mental health affects everyone in some way, women's health affects everyone in some way. That is a fact. The women's issues of the day haven't changed or progressed in many areas as fast as they should. Women in many parts of the world are not just not treated equally but differently, whether it's job insecurity, not being taken seriously in healthcare as either doctor or patient, or as an individual asking for help with their mental health. If not now, when? This particular story is potentially uncomfortable but it is all too common and rarely discussed in the open, that needs to change, in all ways.
The most we can do with this project, is get individuals involved, talk to charities and gain some exposure too, for them to help others. The minimal thing we can do is to shine a light on the topic, either way the exposure of this message is so important.
Forward Thinking:
If we meet our goal, It would be beyond words.
We are currently cast and crewed, we will soon be filming in Early-Mid April 2022. If were to meet our goal we would be able to create exposure for the film and all those involved if we hit above it... we can help pay our talent and submit it to as many festivals in the next 18 months as possible. Meeting our goal is so important because then we can create something truly powerful with funds that you contributed. We will more than likely, unless we surpass enough on budget to actually distribute, you will be able to get it directly from us after festival season if you contribute $75 and up and at the end of 2023 we plan to release it publicly on YouTube, the link will be made available and annouced via email to all those who contribute and via our social media.
