The Story
Every summer, teenagers across the country are thrust into leadership positions as camp counselors. It’s essentially kids leading the kids, so… it’s chaos. Speaking as someone who was a camp counselor, I can attest to that! My experience, though stressful and exhausting, is the perfect basis for a workplace comedy-- one that I feel is long overdue. We've seen the personal struggles of teachers, principals and janitors on TV before, but I feel that the mayhem both faced, and created, by camp counselors has never been adequately explored. This pilot, though, aims to fix that problem by giving audiences a look inside the excitement. Said excitement, though, can only be brought to life with your help! For our multi-day shoot this spring, we need funds for travel, catering, production design, and locations. Any amount you might be willing to donate would be greatly appreciated!
First time camp counselor Jack butts heads with veteran camp counselor Jessica, who he believes is not prioritizing the campers’ safety. Meanwhile, head counselor Brian brings in “Marlo The Magnificent” for a show-stopping performance that, he believes, will put Sydville County Summer Camp back on top.
Jack is a naturally anxious teen who has never worked with kids before. Thus, he is incredibly nervous about becoming a co-counselor (alongside Jessica) at Sydville County Summer Camp. He will try and keep his group of youngsters safe, by any means necessary… even at the expense of a potentially fun time for said youngsters.
Jessica, on the other hand, is much more laid back. Having worked as a counselor at Sydville County Summer Camp the year prior, she is not so worried about the kids’ safety. She has a much better handle on things, and thus is more focused on ensuring that her group has a fun summer.
Brian, as head counselor, is most concerned with Sydville County Summer Camp’s reputation. He is responsible for making sure that everything is up to snuff. If the camp were to go downhill… he may never be able to look at himself the same way again. Thus, he is determined to make sure things run smoothly.
Timmy is the most jaded six-year-old on the planet. Having already attended Sydville County Summer Camp the past two summers, he is sick of every activity his camp has to offer, and is desperate to find new things to see and do.
