Story
Mission Statement
Queer media is so often focused on tragedy. I am not interested in ignoring queer pain, but I am focused on finding and showing queer joy. Cult Classic is a song that was born from rejection. But beyond that hurt, there is heart, there is mess, there is life. I am committed to uncovering that life.About The Project
My name is Jude Tanner. I’m 23 years old and I use they/them pronouns. I recently graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Drama and a minor in Arts & Public Policy. In 2018 I started writing and producing my debut EP, Foreword, and released it in 2020. Following the release of Foreword, I started working on a full-length album with a more acoustic and emotional style. I was not planning on releasing anything until the album was finished. But, like most good things, what felt sudden and entirely out of the blue came exactly on time. This, of course, was my latest single: Cult Classic.
Cult Classic, though so fun and full of love, stemmed from heartache. I wanted so badly to be unbothered. I wanted to believe my self-assurance was unbreakable. I wanted it to be true so I wrote it. Cult Classic became a manifestation song. And though it took some time, it gave me something to look forward to.
Cult Classic is about not needing to be everyone's favorite when you're someone's favorite. And through playing with the iconography of Heathers (1988), Dazed and Confused (1993), and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), I hope to reveal the raw fluidity of identity and healing. And I hope you come along on the journey of coming into oneself by trying on some other people.

Current Team
About This Team
Singer/Songwriter: Jude Tanner (they/them)
I have been writing music ever since I was little, but I started learning to produce and actually make music in 2018. All of my current releases have been 100% self-made. I did this to ensure that collaboration was desired, not demanded, in order for me to create. Because of this, I can wholeheartedly say that my team for this project is nothing short of spectacular. Allow me to introduce them to you:
Director: Luke Pengelly (he/him)
I met Luke in Stonestreet Studios at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. We became fast friends and have been teammates on this project since the very beginning. Luke is an unbelievable director, actor, and photographer. In addition to Stonestreet Studios, he studied with Playwrights Horizons Theatre School, the Lee Strasberg Film and Theatre Institute, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. And even beyond his impressive resume, Luke is one of the most dedicated individuals I will ever know. Luke's vision for this project has always been utterly extraordinary, and he will not settle for anything less. Forever my partner in crime in this journey.
Talent: Danielle Addams (she/her)
Danielle and I met in high school and have been friends for seven years. She is an incredible singer and songwriter, and has a phenomenal eye for aesthetics. Danielle has been my visual consultant for all my prior work, and the first person I send my songs to. She is an artist in every sense of the word and I trust her with my whole heart. Danielle will be portraying my counterpart throughout the entire video. She will take on the iconic roles of Veronica Sawyer, Mitch Kramer, and Janet Weiss. Danielle is a force of nature and I cannot wait to see what she does with this project. My bestie in this life and the next.
Producer: Bara Kim (she/her)
The moment I met Bara I knew I wanted her on this project. She is a stunning actor, writer, and producer, and has accepted awards from Austin Comedy Film Festival, SOHO International Film Festival, and more. Her impressive accolades were only a perk to me, though. What really drew me to Bara was her distinct heart and her creative impulse. Nothing can hold her back from making things happen. She is generous and authentic and emboldening— I could not imagine anyone else as my producer.
DP: Turner Jumonville (he/him)
Turner has been in the industry for decades. He is hilarious, charismatic, and so so passionate. We are wildly fortunate to have him on board to help guide us in this process. Turner has worked on incredibly meaningful pieces and has an exceptional talent for making his work highly cinematic and expressive. I feel it is only necessary to include Turner's full bio, which you can read here:
Raised in Houston, Texas, Turner’s filmmaking journey began in 1985 with a few friends & a JVC GR-C1 - the same video camera Marty McFly time-travelled with.
Upon graduation from the University of Denver in 1996, Turner moved to Los Angeles where his practical film school began working as an assistant cameraman.
Turner shoots documentary & narrative features, lifestyle & commercial content, music videos & network TV. His work has premiered on NBC, Hulu, at The Sundance Film Festival, The Tribeca Film Festival, AFI DOCS Film Festival & Hot Docs Film Festival. He has shot commercials & branded content for Toyota, AirBnB & Logitech. He won an Emmy Award for his contribution to the 2014 Disney Christmas Day Parade. Turner is a member of the International Cinematographers Guild Local 600 & The International Colorist Academy.
