Mission Statement
I'm a Colombian woman, writer-director. How many times have you seen this description? Not many, right? Our project is driven by powerful talented latin women. The two writers, the director and the producer are woman who have stood out by telling their stories with vision, character and resilience.About The Project
I just turned 30 this year and it was then when it hit me, at this age my mother already had a two year old me and was divorced. I think I never saw my mother as more than my mother, we never think of our parents as people who also had dreams and expectations and were young and maybe scared. It was only then when I found myself being the same age as she was that I could go back to see and think about our relationship.
From there I parted to think about mother-daughter relationships and the complex dynamics around it, specially in adolescence. The adolescence of a woman is a complex stage in which a girl starts finding or looking for meaning in concepts that are abstract at the moment -- concepts like love, existence, death or sex -- and as they're young these meanings can sometimes get confusing in the process.
Entre tú y Milagros tries to join moments that have no apparent relationship with each other but in their acumulation an emotion is revealed. These moments are ephemeral; they're tiny little lights of profound realzation, of unexpected total connection with existence and meaning. I don’t think there is any medium more powerful than film to revisit those moments and try to create what can feel like a glimpse of thruth of that moment and its feeling. That is what Entre tú y Milagros is for me.
The world of the film is my world, the one I grew up in, the one I've always questioned quietly and now from the distance I see more objectively. The differences of classes, the dynamics of family relationships and our relationship with what we carelessly call "the service." The power dynamics between land owners and people who actually live in the land and the normalization of death in these places under permanent conflict. This is the world of the film and I really hope you immerse yourself in it and open yourself to have an experience with Milagros.
Where we're at?
We have shot 100% of the film in 16 mm during a 5 day shoot in the mountains of Ciudad Bolivar, Antioquia in Colombia with an incredibly talented cast and crew. We are beyond excited with the beautiful outcome, the incredible performances and we cannot wait to share it with the world. But for this we need your help!

DEVELOPING AND SCANNING OF 16 MM FILM
Working with FILM is expensive. While it's beautiful and it was the best decision for our story, the developing and scanning expenses have yet to be covered.

EDITING
Our amazing editor has started to work on the film and we need to reward him for his time and talent.

SOUND DESIGN
Sound design is half of the film experience, it is what will make us feel immersed in the heat and the sound of the cicadas in a summer afternoon in the mountains of Colombia. We know the importance of having a professional sound design and mix for the film and we would like to work with the best so the audience can enjoy this experience to the fullest.
DISEÑO SONORO
El diseño sonoro es la mitad de una experiencia cinematográfica, es aquello que nos envuelve en el calor, el sonido de las chicharras en una tarde de verano en la montañas de Colombia, lo que nos sumerge en la historia y el lugar. Es importante tener a un diseñador sonoro profesional para hacer la mezcla y el diseño para que la audiencia pueda disfrutar de la experiencia de la película a profunidad.
COLOR
We still have to color correct our film to get the best image of our beautiful raw footage.
This is a process that takes a few days, the colorist dedicates him/herself to every frame of the film to get the best of the 16mm footage, to give it the adequate tonalities and light quality to all the images.

Todavía debemos hacer nuestra corrección de color para tener la mejor imagen que nos va a dar la belleza del material fílmico. Es un proceso de días dónde un colorista se dedica a cada cuadro de la película para sacar del material las tonalidades y la luz adecuada a las imágenes.

Our crew was not only a group of exceptional professionals, but dedicated and passionate humans that joined the project for reasons beyond any sort of compensations. About This Team
Mariana Saffon -- Writer and Director
Mariana grew up in Medellín, Colombia and her studies in Film Directing have led her to Bogotá, France, and New York. She has directed short films and commercials in Morocco, Mexico, Colombia and the U.S and her work has screened in festivals such as the Cartagena International Film Festival and Bogoshorts, among others. She has worked in television on notable shows such as Master Chef Colombia and in advertisement for the likes of Alpina and Renault. She has been awarded the Milos Forman fellowship (’18) at Columbia University and the Colombian Scholarship from Colfuturo (’15). She is currently in post-production for her new short film, Entre tú y Milagros, which won the prestigious FDC production fund from the Colombian Ministry of Culture, and is writing her first feature, La Botero, as she finishes her MFA in directing at Columbia University in New York City.
Diana Patiño -- Producer
Diana grew up in Medellin, Colombia. She moved to Barcelona where she finished a Master Degree in Management and Audiovisual Production at The Autonomous University of Barcelona. She has produced numerous short films that have screened at international and recognized film festivals. She was the producer of the short film Leidi, the first and only Colombian film that has been awarded the Palm D’Or at Cannes Film Festival in 2014. She then worked as Program Coordinator of the National Fund for Film Development in Colombia and currently works as Executive Producer in the Nacional TV broadcaster Señal Colombia.
Alfonso Herrera Salcedo -- Cinematographer
Alfonso is Méxican cinematographer. He graduated with distintion from his BFA in film and animation from the Concordia University Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema in Montreal, Canada and later moved to New York with a Fullbright scholarship to pursue his MFA in Cinematography at NYU Tisch Graduate Film. His work has been in competition in over 30 festivals internationally including Havana, Fribourg, Rooftop, Raindance, and FNC as well as Berlinale and Cannes as part of the Canada Telefilm Pavilion. He won prestigious the Kodak Cinematography Vision Award in 2018 and the Student Golden Tadpole at Camerimage 2019 with the short Lefty/Righty which he shot in Colorado. Alfonso just finished his first feature film in Mexico.
Nathalie Álvarez Mesén -- Co-Writer
Nathalie is a Swedish-Costa Rican writer/director. She was born in Sweden but spend most of her childhood and teen years in Costa Rica and, after high school, moved back to Sweden to study film and received a BFA in physical acting at the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts. In 2016 her short film Filip was awarded Best Live Action film at the Palm Springs ShortFest, and her short film, Asunder, premiered at the Stockholm Film Festival and screened at the Telluride Film Festival as part of the Calling Cards program. Nathalie is an alumn of Berlinale Talents, TIFF Talent Lab and NYFF Artist Academy.
She recently finished her M.F.A. in Screenwriting at Columbia University in New York, and she is currently while developing her first feature film, Clara Sola, a Swedish-Colombian-US co-production.
Jorge Granados Ross -- Co-Producer
Jorge is a Mexican filmmaker. He graduated from Boston University and moved to Los Angeles where he worked for companies like Partizan Entertainment, HBO and Amazon Studios doing extensive work in production. Upon his return to Mexico City, he became the Executive Producer Coca-Cola Media House Coca-Cola’s innovative in-house agency and production company creating content and advertising for Coca-Cola’s multiple brands.
He is now pursuing his Film MFA at Columbia, where he now concentrates in directing and screenwriting.
Saim Sadiq -- Associate Producer
Saim is a Pakistani filmmaker currently finishing his MFA at Columbia University, School of Arts. With a background in anthropology, Saim’s earlier documentary work was showcased by various national networks on television, went viral on social media in Pakistan, and was featured by BBC’s Free Speech Stories. His short, Nice Talking to You (‘18), was awarded Vimeo’s Best Director Award along with five other awards at the 2018 Columbia University thesis film showcase. He is the recipient of the Kodak Student Scholarship Gold Award 2018 and is currently developing his first feature, Gulaab, which was accepted at the Open Doors Hub at the Locarno Film Festival 2018.
His latest short, Darling ('19), was the first Pakistani film to be selected at the Venice Film Festival and subsequently won the ORIZZONTI AWARD FOR BEST SHORT FILM.
Andrew Stephen Lee -- Editor
Stephen is a Filipino-American Director and Writer based in New York City. For three years he worked closely with Magnum photographer Jim Goldberg before becoming an MFA Candidate at Columbia University’s Graduate Film Program. His thesis from Columbia University, Manila is Full of Men Named Boy, premiered in competition at the 75th Venice Film Festival and continued on to the 28th Busan International Film Festival, 41st Festival du Court Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand, and the 32nd SXSW. Stephen was a participant in the 2019 Artist Academy held by the 57th New York Film Festival. He is currently writing his first feature, In The Shade Hardly Any Sun.
