In todays digital world it's so easy to lose touch with reality. Follow her is a commentary on how consuming it can be. We want to explore the negative effects social media can have with our character Cece and what happens to personal relationships when used for selfish purposes.

Mission Statement
We are a collection of student filmmakers wrapping up our educational career with the short film Follow Her. Our talents have been built throughout our time at University. We are all so excited to hire an all women cast, as well as work alongside other student film makers to make this possible.About The Project
The Story
Cece is a popular social media influencer on Instagram, and she loves every second of it. She loves the attention it gives her, so much so that she becomes obsessed about her self-image. Consumed by social media and trying to please her followers, Cece ignores everything else around her, including real-world relationships. The story begins with Cece visiting her estranged sister at her photography showcase, and though it looks like she’s there to support her sister, she’s really only there to take a photo of herself for her own gain. This sets the rest of the story in motion, with Cece experiencing strange visions from the point of view of someone behind her, getting closer with each new photo she takes. There’s also a “creature” that shows up in her photos that everyone keeps seeing and pointing out, except Cece can’t see it herself. Cece must now face the consequences of her obsession as it physically manifests itself around her.
Approach
Horror is a very difficult genre to pull off, and we're all very excited by the challenge. We're not interested in using jump scares to create fear in the audience, but rather using "subtle reveals" that builds tension and keeps the audience on edge. We intend on playing with depth and framing to make it feel like the creature could be lurking behind Cece and come out at any given moment. Coloring will also play a huge factor in bringing the film to life, with warmer tones for when Cece is in her "digital world" since that's where she feels comfortable, to cooler tones for the real world since she ignores it, to completely cold and harsh tones for the visions.

Director's Statement
The idea for Follow Her was inspired by the film Invisible Man (2020) and a comic strip titled The Tattoo Artist. The idea of something coming after you even though you can’t see it fascinated me and inspired me to create a film with that general premise. Given the impacts of social media on today’s society, I wanted to create a film with a social media influencer as the main character since they’re extremely popular and many people want to be one themselves. With this film I wanted to explore that desire to be popular on social media, and how that desire affects the real world around us. To be clear, the story isn’t about bashing influencers or even social media, but more so looks at what happens when we use social media for our own selfish desires. That said the film does take a stab at how consuming social media can be and just how easily one can get lost in it.
Invisible Man (2020)
For me personally, I tried not get too invested in social media. It wasn't until I was in my senior year of high school that I downloaded apps such as Instagram and Snapchat because I didn't want to be addicted to constantly checking my notifications. Now that I've gotten those apps, I've unfortunately become one of those people who are addicted to checking their notifications, despite my best efforts not to. I know how easily it is myself to get consumed in the world of social media, and with the film I want to explore how difficult it can be to separate the digital world from the real world through the character Cece.
One aspect in creating this film that was important to me was to have the main character be female. I had the luxury of taking film classes in high school, where I would watch my classmates' films, which had all male casts. I also competed in festivals for high school students, where the main characters were almost always male. Tired of seeing the lack of female representation in those films, I made sure to have female leads and a majority female cast in my own films, which continued through college as well. From the beginning I knew I wanted Cece to be female, and after several revisions, decided to strictly have an all-female cast.

Project Status
The project is currently in the pre-production stage. It will be cast in January 2022 and filmed in February 2022, with a tentative release date of summer 2022. This campaign is to help raise money for the budget needed to start production in February, as well as for post-production. Once the project is filmed and edited, it will be submitted into various film festivals.
The campaign just covers the bare minimum costs needed for the project to be brought to life. Anything over our desired goal would greatly help us in putting in more money towards props, cast, submitting to more festivals, and any challenges we may face, such as stricter Covid restrictions.

Current Team
About This Team
Meet The Crew!
Director/Writer - Shawn Baker is from Westford, Vermont, and loved creating stories and characters when he was a child, which led him to take an interest in filmmaking. With the sky being the limit, Shawn fell in love with creating any story he could imagine through film. With writing and directing being his passion, he’s excited to be doing both in the upcoming short, Follow Her.
Assistant Director - Benjamin Black is from Bedford, New Hampshire and has been fascinated with film since middle school. In his spare time he would shoot and create short films for fun. Over the years he has developed his style and understanding of cinema which he is ready to bring to Follow Her. Ben is the 1st Assistant Director on the crew and will be overseeing that the entire production is on schedule and organized to release in Spring 2022.
Producer - Jacqueline Vagnone is from Trumbull, Connecticut continuing her passion for film and television. Producing this film is something she has been excited for, especially to create alongside other aspirational students. Jacqueline is in charge of locking down locations, budgeting everything needed and overseeing everything on set once we begin shooting.
Director of Photography - AJ Roberts is so excited to be a part of this creative piece. He has many films under his belt as Production Assistant, AC, and Grip. This will be his first film as an official Director of Photography and cannot wait to bring this story to life. From his hometown of Andover, Massachusetts, AJ is a Film Major and in the process of achieving a Masters in Cinematic Production Management.
Editor - Riley Allen is from Essex, Vermont and has a deep passion for filmmaking. Over the past five years, she has gained extensive experience both editing and directing. Her debut documentary film premiered in several film festivals and on Vermont Public Television. Riley is looking forward to utilizing these skills in the upcoming production of Follow Her. She is excited to work on this film with a talented and collaborative team of professionals, and bring the world of Follow Her to life.
Assistant Camera - Jonathan Tierno is from Reading Massachusetts. Ever since he was 7 years old his father and him would go to one movie every weekend. Documenting every one of them in his movie journal. Always dreaming one day he would get the chance to make one of his own. Hopefully the first of many he will be apart of, Jonathan is the AC on the set of Follow Her. A thrilling story from the mind of Shawn Baker. This short film aims to challenge the way we think about social media in our lives and explores the price we pay when we allow it to become too consuming in our daily lives.
Production Designer - Caroline Howlett is a naturalist who hails from Green Harbor, Massachusetts. She studies human and marine mammal learning behaviors in conjecture with her film studies at Quinnipiac University in order to teach her eyes to be informed of the natural world before our eyes. Caroline creates her art with her focus trained on the raw natural energy of the reality she’s capturing, and as the short film Follow Her written by Shawn Baker challenges viewers with a tunnel of self absorption, Caroline is inspired and eager to aid in bringing the heart dropping story to screen with world creation and design.
Sound Designer - Madeleine Shellard is a senior film, television, and media arts major Quinnipiac University with a minor in business. All the way from Rochester New York, she uses the knowledge she has a gathered through her film career here at Quinnipiac to prepare for the creation of a project like this one. She looks forward to putting her passion for audio and sound design in action to elevate adrenaline and horror throughout the short film FollowHer.
