Mission Statement
Increasing representation both on camera and off while creating an inclusive space to just geek out in is a core founding tenet of GeekSpaceTV. Our diverse cast and crew will focus on telling stories of marginalized people and playing games created by diverse teams.About The Project
Geek Space is a non-profit online broadcasting studio in Seattle and we need your help to relaunch in our second year!As a studio and as individuals, we're dedicated to increasing the visibility of minorities in gaming and geek spaces across the board whether it's in game development, in-game representation, e-Sports, or as content creators on Twitch, Youtube and elsewhere.
Our mission is reflected not only in our programming, but also in various streamed collaborations with other like minded charities.Geek Space launched its very first season a year ago with two live, weekly RPG shows: Leviathan: Distant Stars, and Exalted: Games of Divinity. With viewer support we were able to add a ton of bonus content to that over the last year, including exclusive coverage of GaymerX East!
Leviathan: Distant Stars (36 eps.)Exalted: Games of Divinity (12 eps)
Gaymer X East exclusive coverage
High School Royale (14 episodes)
Eat Prey Kill (14 episodes)
A Manor Of Speaking (4 episodes)
Right Clique (4 episodes)
Behind The Screens (8 episodes)
... and various special episodes
Geek Space needs your support for a successful Year 2 Re-launch!
For Year 2 we want to raise the bar on the content we produce. With your generosity and support we’ll be able to broadcast even more great content starting in late September.
The channel will officially re-launch on Sept. 17th with a new run of A Manor of Speaking. We’ll also have a wrap party for this campaign that following weekend, live on Twitch! With your help, GeekSpaceTV will expand programming to the following weekly RPG shows!
- High School Royale's story concludes with Team Tardigrade racing against time
- A Manor of Speaking: To The Point will showcase a sneak peek at the much anticipated Sense, Sensibility, and Swordsmanship expansion to Good Society
- Eat Prey Kill will return for its final season and epic conclusion!
- A brand-new Urban Fantasy RPG GMed by our own RandomTuesday/Lauren!
In addition we will expand our geek-related content shows:
- Behind The Screens will return with a new format, bringing you the top tips and tricks of your favorite roleplayers!
- A weekly show dedicated to highlighting our favorite video games created by diverse teams!
- Our own Steph hosts artist interviews and hangouts, VR painting, and discussions while making some mind-blowing visual creations!
- Wined Down - Every week our CEO and occasional guests will sit down to chat with the community about the state of the studio and everyone in it.
and EVEN MORE PROGRAMMING will be unlocked as stretch goals are reached!- $17.5k - Night Witches RPG - during World War 2, the Night Witches were a group of women pilots who flew some of the most dangerous missions of the war. - REACHED!
- $20k - Costume Closet - We'll bring in our best crafters and make costume elements for the characters in our various RPG shows, as a YouTube show.
- $22.5k - Sleepy Time Story Time
- $25k -Anna is locked in as a GM for a season 2 show!
- $27.5k - Magic the Gathering with the Lady Planeswalker Society
$30k - Potterverse RPG show in Season 2.
And many more show ideas!!!
Bringing our Year 1 shows into easy to access audio podcasts is something we’ve wanted to do from day 1. Unfortunately, that takes time and effort that we’ve lacked the resources for. With the success of this campaign, we’ll finally be able to accomplish that goal by hiring the help we need to turn our catalog of existing shows into great podcasts.
Additionally, in Year 2 we want to launch new podcast specific content possibly including:
- a book club
- comic book or movie reviews
- a roundtable discussions on the fundamentals of intersectional feminism!
Our RPG shows follow a traditional format on Twitch, made popular by shows like Critical Role, but we've also been live-broadcasting a simultaneous 360 camera perspective on Periscope. This creates a more immersive experience, as though you’re sitting there at the table with our cast of players.
We'd like to take that unique experience a step further and bring in spatial audio that will allow 360 viewers to know where in the room audio is coming from, making the show even more immersive. How cool is that?
We’ll also get some assistance porting all of those 360 videos in our archive up on Youtube, where they’ll be available in a higher resolution than Periscope allows. If you've been watching our content lately, you may have noticed some enhancements to our original lighting setup, creating a more balanced, less harsh effect on all our shows. We’ve even been able to dabble in lighting the background separately, allowing our cast to stand out better and create better ambiance customized to each show.
In Year 2, we plan to take that up a notch or three and bring many live theater style lighting techniques onto our own stage:
- lighting cast members individually
- creating theatrical effects at opportune moments
- and generally increasing production values, creating an experience unlike any other seen before.
In Year 1, we were able to give an exclusive showcase of the amazing developers over at GaymerX East. This was a wonderful experience for us as a newly created organization, but we were sad we didn’t get to interact with the community there at all.
Starting with first season of Year 2, we’d like to change that:- At PAX West ‘18, our cast members and crew will be on a variety of panels. We hope to see you there!
- We’re going to have a booth at Geek Girl Con '18! Join us here in Seattle for Oct. 27th and 28th where we’ll share our tips on diving into RPGs as a newcomer and help organizing your own sessions.
We truly appreciate the time you spent checking out our campaign and we hope we’ve convinced you. Our mission is important! Media that properly represents marginalized people is underfunded and difficult to come by, but desperately needed. Representation shows people they are not alone and helps create unique understanding of those different than ourselves. Gaming provides a unique avenue for exploring this and building acceptance of differences.
So please click that support button and share this campaign on social media. We can’t do this without you!
