Mission Statement
The Story
GEN XX is a sci fi dramedy set in a near future world where women now run shit. That’s right, instead of a boys club, it’s a girls club, and the phrase “LADIES FIRST" has a whole other meaning…
Like reverse 1950s, womxn (inclusive of trans, nonbinary, and genderqueer) go to work and the minority population of men tend the house. But don’t worry, the single 40+ “old males” can still do lower level administrative jobs (as long as they keeping taking their birth control pills of course).
Meet ROXANNE - a workaholic businesswoman currently losing her race for Senate because, while brilliant, she's not charismatic. And it doesn't help that she's single too. Yep, in this reality balancing work and family is seen as an asset rather than a liability - I mean, how are you supposed to juggle health care and national security if you've never juggled a sick kid and a budget report?
While she’d prefer to find an equal partner (ie: a wife), the election’s three months out and there’s no time for that. So Roxanne goes to STEINEM’S GROOMING SCHOOL FOR HUSBANDS for a quick fix. But her boring test date takes a turn when her match Adam starts expressing how he really feels about this new reality.
Most of you reading this can probably guess the reasons that fueled this project, but to name a few…
• The sexual assaulters in the Oval Office and on the Supreme Court.
• Nine states passing anti-abortion bills.
• Planned Parenthood under attack.
• The thousands of untested rape kits.
• Guns.
• Effing. Mitch. McConnell.
So yeah, I don't know about you, but sometimes all I want to do is escape. My hope is that this film can serve as some uplifting comedic relief, but at the same time illuminate today’s sexism by showing a future in reverse. And even go a little further to explore the danger of human nature whenever one group has ultimate power.
