HEEL

is a narrative drama about an up-and-coming pro wrestler who is offered his dream job: a contract with the biggest company in the world. All he has to do is behave himself for a few weeks.

 

Pro wrestling is booming. It's everywhere. GLOW has hit multiple seasons, WWE has its own network, AEW just exploded onto the scene...even hipsters have fully embraced the sport. Let's face it: pro wrestling is cool again. But with as much mainstream attention as wrestling gets, no one ever really looks inside to see what truly makes it tick.

 

 

We've launched this grassroots campaign because, at its core, fans are what wrestling is all about. The live shows, matches, and thrilling in-ring action all happen because the fans come to see it. In the same way, we need your help to reach our goal. Your contributions will finance the project...and get you some cool incentives, too. Pro wrestling does not exist without fans, and this film can not exist without you. Let's make a cool movie.

 

 

Heel takes the fun world of larger-than-life characters and acrobatics, and digs deeper. When we pull back the curtain, sometimes we find some very flawed men and women struggling with a myriad of personal demons. Specifically, this film deals with drug addiction and sexual assault, issues that are more pertinent now, in 2019, than ever before. These two issues scored above and beyond in recent social media polls regarding what fans wanted to see addressed in a new wrestling film, which only speaks to how prescient and relatable both issues are. So many of you also sent in private messages detailing personal stories- countless heartbreaking emails and DMs made it painfully clear that this film must be made. We appreciate each and every person who took the time to reach out. We will make sure this story is told onscreen in a powerful way.

 

    

 

Screenwriter Ryan Nemeth's background in wrestling fuels the brutal drama of Heel. Director Maggie Levin's raw, rock n' roll-infused voice is perfectly suited for this film. Our goal is to produce HEEL and submit it to film festivals around the world. The wheels are in motion. We want you to be a part of this journey.

 

 

RYAN NEMETH (screenwriter) was a "sports entertainer" for the WWE NXT brand. Beyond that, he wrote & acted on WWE Swerved, and has wrestled for many promotions around the country & overseas. He wrote and produced Daddy's Boys, which was selected for the 42nd Cleveland International Film Festival.

MAGGIE LEVIN (director) is a screenwriter & director with rock n’ roll roots. Recently, Maggie worked as a director and staff writer on Season 2 of MISS 2059 (New Form Digital/go90). She is the director of THE FRIENDLESS FIVE (Fullscreen) and writer-director of the groundbreaking VR film VAIN: THIS PARTY SUCKS (Nashville Film Festival, VeerVR & more).

KATIE ROTOLO (producer) Katie Rotolo has been in the entertainment industry for over a decade producing & managing production for films, commercials, TV, & new media. She is passionate about telling impactful stories while minimizing production's effect on the environment. Most recently, Katie produced the BAFTA and Oscar-Qualifying film, TREACLE. She also produced You Tube star Anna Akana's short film, When I Wanted to Die, which premiered at Boston Film Festival in 2018 and has over 2 million views online.
