A mothers love is like no other - and at times it drives us to push our boundaries. Writer and Director, Tiara West shapes this family drama with care for its characters. HOLDING is the story of the struggle to break generational cycles. Daniel, a young boxer, gets an unexpected visit from his manipulative, alcoholic mother. As he prepares for his big fight, he's forced to balance the needs of his mother and the demands of his dream.
This is a coming of age drama. Daniel’s lifeline has been boxing since he can remember. His sister Alexis, has been his number one support since the passing of their grandmother. Just as they begin to regain balance in their lives, their mother, Rene, emerges back into their lives. An addiction to alcohol and gambling is the backdrop of Rene’s motherhood but Daniel sees her as his mother first. Family drama can derail the vision you have for your life. Will Daniel maintain his focus?I am an Atlanta-based film director, originally hailing from Baltimore, MD. In 2015, I arrived in the ‘Hollywood of the South’ to pursue my filmmaking dreams. Soon after, I landed an internship at Bobbcat Films, which later led me to Set PA for multiple film companies, including Bounce TV, Bobbcat Films, and TV One while continuing to pursue my independent projects.
I have written and directed six short films, one of which garnered special recognition at Peachtree Village Film Festival, Urban Film Festival, and Indie Night Film Festival. I am eager to take my career to the next level and completing my short ‘Holding’ is my next big endeavour.
My work aims to emulate authentic stories of Black love and relationships depicting empathetic storytelling with memorable characters. As a creative collective, Tiara West Films believes it is essential to tell the stories of Black experiences in its full spectrum – both in the turbulent and triumphant moments. Your support for our project will bring us one step closer to our goal of flipping negative narratives and showcasing more people of color in positive, well-rounded roles.

We are currently in pre-production and have been able to secure $4,000 of our production budget to secure our locations, camera + lenses rental, and key crew members. We're raising $4,000 of our production budget bringing our overall budget to $8,000. These funds will help us cover equipment rentals, insurance, provide meals + crafty, and pay our talented cast and crew. We will also be able to use funds to cover other production costs such as props/set dressing, COVID PPE, and preliminary post-production costs. If we are able to reach our crowdfunding goal, we have set our stretch goal to $6,000. With these additional funds, we will be able to cover more of our post-production needs such as color correction, music licensing and festival submission fees.
