Story
Mission Statement
Imaginary Friend is about people and connection told from the perspective of a lonely elderly woman, often a forgotten demographic. Go Be One is a company dedicated to producing stories that are inclusive both in front of and behind the camera and we strive for gender and racial parity.About The Project
Helen, a lonely isolated woman disconnected from human interactions. She is suddenly given the opportunity to connect with people from her past using a new augmented reality device. But soon, Helen begins to question the true emotional awareness of her virtual companion.
We want to share a uniquely visual story about universal human emotion. Our film strives to articulate what words can't always say, using the camera as a tool to emphasize the consciousness of a lonely woman who wants nothing more than to feel connected to another human being.
The idea for the film derived from mending damaged relationships. What was the most effective way to heal this kind of wound? Was it at times better to let things go without interfering? And in the event of reconciliation, did people need human interaction with those involved, or could the process of healing be just as effective if done internally?
With an increased interest in augmented reality, we wanted to explore how this technology could be utilized in times of similar distress. Could a person have a tangible, satisfying experience with someone who wasn't "real", and what would that mean in regards to how we connect with the actual people in our lives?Incentives
