'Inside the Notebook' is a story about child sexual abuse, an issue that, unfortunately, makes people uncomfortable. However, untreated child sexual abuse not only scars children, it also leaves offender free to abuse future generations. And with this film, we want to be the voice to the voiceless.

Story
Mission Statement
Our cast & crew are formed by a cultural, gender, and age diversity from all around the world. We are also trying to bring female filmmakers as much as we can to encourage them to show their talent and break the stereotype that only men can be filmmakers. We believe in equal rights.About The Project
There are studies that show that 20% of adult female and 10% of adult male recall childhood sexual abuse meaning that 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 6 boys is a victim of child sexual abuse. Most of them, an 88%, were never reported until they became adults. It is time to stop it.
During 3000 A.D. in Egypt, the Pharaoh imposes a law where each kid must give their virginity to him. Istar, the most wanted girl, decides to return to reunite with her mother after 12 years separated. However, to accomplish that, she will need to learn how to fight to face the Pharaoh and his army, realizing throughout the process that her mother abandoned her at the age of 8 as a way to protect her from the Pharaoh.
The story is inspired by true moments and events. Moments that were locked in our deepest memories and we finally decided to share them. Our goal with this film is to start a conversation about child sexual abuse and hopefully, make it stop. Help us to make a change and give our kids a better and safer life.
As we mentioned before, our crew and cast are formed by a cultural diversity including our director Alejandra Hou from Panama (Independent Shorts Awards winner for Pulse), Actress Denise Milfort from Haiti, cinematographer Angelica Reyes from Puerto Rico, production designer Karen Yepez from United States, and Executive Producer Stephanie Renaud from France.#ChildHelpImpact #KidsDeserveBetter #ProtectOurKids

About This Team
Meet some of the amazing people from our 'Inside the Notebook' family.
Alejandra Hou is a Chinese-Panamanian award-winning director who started as a singer-songwriter. She felt inspired to direct her music videos, ultimately, leading her to pursue what would be her biggest passion, filmmaking. This led her to enroll at The Los Angeles Film School, separating from her family for the first time, where she started to get more involved in the filmmaking process, but specifically, finding a huge passion for directing, editing, and writing.
As a multicultural raised person born in Panama and raised by Chinese parents, she finds exciting to discover, create, and share stories with significant meaning to create awareness about different aspects of life. Her first short film called "Pulse", directed and edited by her, won five awards such as Best LGBT Short, Best Female Director, Best Student Director, and Best Short Film.
"I want people to feel something in each frame, to identify with the characters, to create awareness through the stories of what is happening around the world that some of us want to ignore, and sometimes, simply make them forget their surrounding for a few minutes, immersing them into a different world."
~ Alejandra Hou

"I love the freedom to create art in a new world on screen."
~ Karen Yepez
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Denise Milfort narrowly escaped great political upheaval with her family as a small child as they were forced to abandon all of their assets and start with zero in the United States. Her interest in acting began early, she landed leading roles in the extensive drama program at all of her high school productions in Stamford, Connecticut.
She later on attended Eastern Connecticut State University and majored in biology, then moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting. She’s appeared in films and commercials, more notably alongside academy award winner Forest Whitaker in Repentance and the highly acclaimed tv miniseries Roots in 2016. She’s also credited on the Nine Inch Nails album The Fragile for song La Mer. Her latest work is DOA blood river due out in the fall of 2017, and she’s beyond excited to join the cast of After Party.
