Story
Mission Statement
JK was founded in 2018 by B Milder, in a scarcity of digital avenues to view independent creative work. We privilege analog methods of making, but present our issues in an easily-accessible digital format. We believe creativity outside the mainstream art world is important and should be supported!About The Project
When JK Zine was born in October 2018, it was a small publication showing work by a group of friends. Alex Picel wrote the code for the zine app AND took the photos for 3 issues. B Milder designed the app AND does the creative direction and layout for every issue.
Over time, JK developed its vision of what an independent digital magazine should offer. We've created an innovative tech platform, outside of advertising driven social media, that will help people discover new art. JK has expanded our team to facilitate the consistent distribution of quality content. We want JK's new way of making and distributing zines to help financially support the creative folks making the work.
Our team's passion for this project is ensured by our communities financial contributions. Today, JK exists as a free iOS app with 9 issues featuring 12 different artists. We are excited to continue our project and development - working with more artists, releasing new issues, and making our app more dynamic for both iPhone and Android users.
This crowdfunding campaign is to help us launch the next phase of growth for JK Zine.
- We commit to paying an artist fee for every creative contributor we work with.
- We commit to developing an Android version of the zine app so that anyone with a smartphone can access JK.
- We added an email newsletter to our offerings this year. We commit to paying creative writers and journalists that write content for these dispatches.
- We commit to maintaining a library of free issues, for all to enjoy regardless of their ability to purchase entertainment.
Help us take the next step in expanding our platform: developing an Android app and supporting our contributors. Your pledge to JK means we can expand our audience and deepen connections with our community, partners, and contributors.
JK Zine is a sponsored project of the New York Foundation for the Arts.
