The Story
If you're here, this project has been implanted into your mind through our pitch video. Perhaps you're curious as to what this film is about. Here's a little backstory...
LICHEMOTH (pronounced LITCH-EE-MUHTH if you're wondering) is a horror romance inspired by the storytelling of Guillermo del Toro through the lens of DEATH METAL. Not your typical ghost story, LICHEMOTH reawakens you to an alternative form of connection beyond the physical realm.

GENESIS: The band, "LICHEMOTH" is based off of the "Lich" monster in fantasy fiction. In this way, the band is a medium to the undead. Furthering their connection between the physical and spiritual realms, the lead singer pours ashes into the crowd. Our protagonist inhales the ashes, becoming inhabited by a recently deceased metalhead.
DOLL: Shy and virginal Doll, always hiding behind her camera, our protagonist spends her evenings capturing the virile essences of the metal bands she photographs. You wouldn't know it at first glance, innocent as she is, but within her lies a dark and polarizing force that is waiting to be awakened. We meet Doll on the fateful night she photographs LICHEMOTH, sparking the flames of her CARNAL awakening. Ask yourself, when have you ever seen a metal story through the eyes of a woman?
Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak
SICK BOY: Deceased metalhead 'Sick Boy' is the source of the ashes Lichemoth blows into the crowd. Immediately inhaled by Doll, Sick Boy appears to her, invading her senses, possessing her until she has no other choice but to succumb. Dead as he is, pale and wan, the above still from CRIMSON PEAK encapsulates his straddling of two worlds.
GROM: Lead singer of LICHEMOTH, he's on a world tour. Grom is determined to fuse the realms of the terrestrial and incorporeal. On the night we meet him, he invokes a spell through Sick Boy's ashes, possessing Doll and continuing his plan to mingle the mystical.
Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water
Tomas Alfredson's Let the Right One In
Inspired by the Horror Romance genre, the story of a distant protagonist finding relatedness to an otherworldly being is a theme we are exploring in LICHEMOTH.
We see examples of this with Guillermo del Toro's THE SHAPE OF WATER and Tomas Alfredson's LET THE RIGHT ONE IN.
Panos Cosmatos' Mandy
A large portion of the support we're asking for will be going towards lighting and post. A sanguine color palette will represent the unsettling and preturnatual change pulsing through Doll's veins.
DISBURSEMENT OF FUNDS / LOGISTICS:
Prep - incentives for our donors!
Production - labor, equipment rentals, site rental fees, location permits, crafty, PPE.
Post - labor (editor/colorist), music, ADR, etc.
Film Festivals - application fees.
Locations:
Both of our locations play a huge part in this film. Luckily, our craftsman house is being donated, and for that, we are very thankful. But to really sell the catalyst of our heroine's story, the night of her possession, we need a proper music venue. To tell Lichemoth in the way it needs to be told, we need this location.
This is your film just as much as it is ours, and with your support, LICHEMOTH can come to afterlife.
