The Story
Love A Deal! I can’t deny that I do.
I, Leonard Smith Jr. have always loved deals. The thing I loved even more then saving $$$, was being on stage.
I’ve always felt a bit differently than others, and at times misunderstood. That feeling fades when I’m on stage. I love being up there making people laugh. But the world of comedy is growing rapidly, and comics are told to "do more" then ever: generate viral videos, draw in thousands of followers, and host a weekly podcast. The Problem is, that's just not me. Call me a "traditionalist", but posting my "bits" social media doesn't fulfill me in the same way it does other comics. Stand up isn’t something I ever wanted for the fame, or money, but for the joy I get out of connecting with the crowd.
The problem is, this mindset doesn't usually get you noticed by time big studio heads looking for fresh comics to star in a new stand up special. So, I've decided to take matters into my own hands. With your help I will be able to develop my own special with a great team of filmmakers - who I plan to pay respectable wages. I have been working hard on a lot of material in the last few years, especially whilst on the on the “We Quit Our Jobs Tour.” The feedback I was able to receive from audiences and fans during that tour was so positive I felt like it gave me the green light I needed to develop my own special.
I would like to keep up the positive feed back I received from my last tour so, filming the special now, is prudent. As an actor and creative the strikes this past year have taken a toll, and I think it's important to matters into my own hands and film it myself. My plan for this project is to hire the best film crew I know and produce a comedy special this spring, 2024. My end goal for this project is to have a short festival run before I premier it locally in LA.
I love this material and I’m ready to share it. Maybe after you watch you’ll become a fan, or even begin to understand a bit more about me.
Sincerely,
Leonard Smith Jr.
