Story
Mission Statement
We are assembling a cast and crew of diverse backgrounds in terms of race, gender, sexual orientation, and life experience in order to tell a layered story that doesn’t fall victim to stereotypes. Make America Bake Again is an equal opportunity pastry consumer. No pastries shall be turned away.About The Project
I am a midwestern gal who moved away from a family she loves to pursue a challenging career in a challenging place. Throughout the highs and lows, I've realized how much my upbringing has provided me with the resourcefulness, determination, humor, and vices that have allowed me to survive.
I love the idea of seeing a character through the lens of their family history and a way of being that has been engrained over generations. Then, I love watching them get the courage to let go of things that don't serve them and still hold onto what does, all while loving and honoring where they come from along the way.
Enter Mary Margaret Anderson. She’s not just a car mechanic; she’s a car mechanic who bakes! Her passion for baking has led her to face her fears and bury feelings as she tries her darndest to make it as a contestant on America’s favorite baking competition, Make America Bake Again! With tough love and inspirational football quotes from her cousin Angie, plus “fashion” advice from her cousin Kayla, Mary Margaret tries to rise to the top.
The time is right for this story about women finding their individual and unique power in spite of challenges and pressures to stay in a certain kind of box. The time is right to be reminded that fights–whether for cause or career–take time, hard work, resourcefulness, and community. Above all, the time is right to be reminded that cakes aren’t just cakes: they’re therapists.
