Mission Statement

We believe women have stories to tell - and this one is a doozy. Originating from the Pacific Northwest, this story shows different facets of that region including its casino culture, tribal influence, diverse backgrounds, and of course, its cold, rainy weather.

The Story

Martingale was shot in May 2019 for $110,000

after 3 months of pre-production...

...and 4 years of writing, development and a ton of sweat equity! It stars the talented Kelly Sullivan (General Hospital) and William Shockley (Dr. Quinn) alongside a mostly Seattle cast, local to the often cold and wet area where we filmmed. It took 20 days of production, and with most days requiring overnights, it asked a lot from the cast and crew. But we did it, we pulled it off and now we're in post-production and need a few more elements to make it all come together!

We believe this budget is incredibly small compared to other movies in its category in terms of actor performance, look, style and story. It's similar in tone to crime thrillers like Blue Ruin or The Strange Ones (small, independent films from new directors with an unknown cast and for under $500,000) but it still cost even less by keeping the shooting schedule and crew roster trim. We're maintaining that mindset through post-production. We definitely don't want to skimp on quality of course but we know this film can meet its potential with a relatively small amount to finish it.

How We're spending the Post-Production Money

(only $16,000 is needed through Seed & Spark... the rest is though other means)

We're raising the final 15% ($20,000) of the overall budget for the film. In order to increase our odds of success however, we're only raising a portion of that on this platform. If you're interested in investing for points and sharing in the revenue for the film, please contact me directly for more info.

About This Team

Adventus, the producers behind Martingale, collaborated with the The October People for the fourth time since the sci-fi horror The Device. Other films in our history together include Hunting Grounds, Ayla and the latest, soon-to-be-released slasher film The Killing Joke. Our working relationship spans more than five years so far.

Why is this important? Besides the excellent creative dynamic we've built together, The October People is a tremendous asset in production and distribution, bringing in more than a million in gross revenue on multiple feature films on less than $400,000 spent on the ones so far released. Although our film slate is only in the Ultra Low Budget category (so far), it's viewership has reached tens of thousands on mulitple streaming and phyical media platforms.
