Mission Statement
Más Latina was born to showcase a broad range of Latinx characters that aren't normally seen in the media. With a multi-cultural and lqbtq inclusive cast and crew, we are creating a female driven story that holds space for Latinx writers and creative voices to shine!About The Project
About our story:
"Ni de aqui, ni de alla"
Neither here nor there. It's a feeling, it's a way of life. The U.S. is made up of immigrants and children of immigrants who are often caught between two cultures. In Más Latina, a late twenties Los Angelena struggles with her identity due to this cultural split. Her over bearing Hispanic family, ball busting best friend and a mysterious neighbor, among others, make up her community, and she'll need their help to become the *successful* youtuber-comedian of her dreams!

Growing up I observed a disconnect, there was Spanish language television (Sabado Gigante!) and then there was mainstream media/TV (Full House). Very rarely were Latinx characters portrayed in the mainstream, and when they were, I could count on one hand the various roles that were depicted.
With Más Latina I want to contribute a range of new tropes that bridge the gap between cultures, but of course, I still want to pay homage to the Sofía Vergara's of our world. In fact, Más Latina was born on the day that I made this quick iphone video from home, spoofing the classic "Sexy Mami" stereotype:
In the Más Latina pilot, we set up some of the challenges that our lead character Gabi faces throughout the series. Consuelo, her traditional mother, wants Gabi to be Christian and have children ASAP, while Tía Myra, the wild and free auntie, takes Gabi to healers or "curanderos" that cast spells so that Gabi will find a passionate lover. Gabi's best friend Cindi, parties hard, is a mega Dodgers fan, and pushes Gabi to really take her youtube channel seriously. Sol, Gabi's gender bending cousin, loves Morrissey and wants Gabi to embrace a more progressive political agenda. And lastly, a curious neighbor, known as the Tall Guatemalan, keeps popping up in her life. Perhaps a romance ensues and everyone's prayers will be answered?! But what does Gabi want? We'll find out!
Influences for the tone and style of the show include: Insecure, Broad City, Arrested Development, Strangers with Candy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - and the French indie film Amelie!
The show is designed to be a vehicle for Latinx writers and creatives to contribute their skills, talent, and stories! With the help of this campaign, we can create a high quality pilot to prove the strength of the concept and attract a home for the series. In the long run, Más Latina brings together a diverse writer's room, focused on elevating the perspectives and experiences of Latinx writers with a different director for each episode. I am Latina by way of my mother, who is from Coatepeque, Guatemala. She raised me as a single parent, which made her culture an even stronger influence on me. Also, I grew up in Los Angeles, where Latin American heritage is expressed everywhere. If anyone can helm a project about breaking down Latinx stereotypes, I'm your gurrrllll.The take-away: support a unique project, that empowers the Hispanic community, actively works for inclusion, and wraps it all up in a comedy you can share with your Momma.
Please follow our campaign, donate a generous portion of your 401k (not sure what that is), and most importantly share this project with your tribe, so your tribe and our tribe can make a bigger tribe and then we can change the popular narratives in our western patriarchal society! But mercury might be in retrograde, so dismantling the patriarchy could take a lil longer. You can also be on board for just the laughs, because there will be some serious LOL’s in this pilot.

About This Team
For the pilot episode, our writing team was Janeva Zentz (the lead in "La Voz de los Silenciados"), Nadia Vazquez (actor/writer seen on Conan O'Brian) and Tim Young (writer/editor/director at Four A Minute Productions). Our narrator is Christopher Benitez (stars in The God Complex series), and the budget was done by Meghan Weinstein of Daisy Eagle Films. The production sound recording and mixing will be done by sound guru hailing from Australia, Tom Hall. Throughout the campaign we will be adding to the team, with a focus on bringing Latinx creatives to the mix.
