Assisted suicide is a controversial topic in the world of medical philosophy. Memories past explores the story of someone who has decided they do not want to suffer a horrible painful death, and why it might be better to allow others to choose when they want to die.

Mission Statement

I want people to understand the philosophy of terminal death and how it can affect people negatively. A lot of people want everyone to live forever, and this simply isn't possible. By understanding those who are suffering, we can try to make their existence a little less painful.

The Story

Memories past is a project that focuses on the idea of assisted suicide and how it relates to life and death. Assisted suicide is an incredibly controversial topic in most countries as it conflicts with many people's ideas about life, death, and or religion. I wanted to make this film because people need to understand that there are many people out there suffering that do not want to live anymore. Many conflicting laws prevent medical professionals from euthanizing patients legally, and what ends up happening is doctors get sued by patients for "Murder" when their loved one dies of an overdose from some kind of opiate.

Our film follows a woman named Caroll; a widow who has been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and only has a few months to live. Carol weighs the options in her mind and decides that she no longer has a reason to live. Carol isn't exactly suicidal by most people's definitions, but she most certainly does not want to die a slow agonizing death. Carol might be a work of fiction, but there are many people out there right now who are suffering from some sort of mental or physical ailment that will never be cured. She ends up meeting someone named Joshua, the man who will be carrying out the death. Joshua, like many medical professionals, has had enough. Something I do not see discussed very often is the long-term effects of working in a trauma department like surgery or working in hospice. It takes a lot of incredibly mentally strong individuals to keep a hospital or medical center running, and it's no wonder that they have high rates of suicide and depression.

My name is Tylor Myers. I've been working on films since I was 15 years old. I have an incredible love for film and philosophy, and I am always working toward combining them into something beautiful. Recently, I've been focusing on directing, and my latest directorial work From Where There Is Nothing went over fairly well. Here are some stills from it!

Films are incredibly expensive, and given the current state of the economy, it makes it even harder for small-time filmmakers like myself to get something off the ground. We need just a little bit of your support to help us get this made. Your money will directly support offsetting the cost of gear rentals and post production.

Currently, we are in the middle of preproduction moving towards post production. This campaign will allow the project to move forward into production and allow us to create the film itself. When the film is completed, it will move to post production, where we already have a custom soundtrack being curated by Will Fendoni. We want to push this into local festivals as well as heavy hitters like Slamdance and Nashville. When the film is complete and done with its festival circuit, it will be available to watch online on platforms such as Vimeo and YouTube.

We will be taking a strict approach to covid protocols onset. Everyone will be tested prior to the filming of the production and there will be social distancing on set. We feel this story is incredibly important and is one that needs to be told now.
