The Story
"I want to tell stories about compelling characters overcoming unpredictable challenges. Challenges can be big or small. Stories about the journey and process of overcoming. Stories about marginalized
characters trying to find their place. I wanted to present a truthful and authentic portrayal of 2 damaged people finding each other. I was excited about the challenge of developing the journey of Chelsea. I know what it’s like to not get the love you deserve or even know what type of love you deserve. I was interested in exploring that theme with this film. There are a lot of people looking for love and will do anything to feel loved and loved. Even if it means sacrificing a piece of their happiness. I’m excited about Chelsea’s journey because we get to see what it’s like for a woman to have that realization, “I deserve more!” How does her world shift in this brief moment? How can we dramatize this moment for the ultimate emotional satisfaction?" -Marttise Hill (Night Trains Director)
WHY US? WHY THIS STORY? WHY NOW?
As NYC transplants and a 98% BIPOC cast & crew, we wanted to tell a story about the unique moment we’ve all found ourselves in where we get a brief moment to connect with someone we’ve seen in transit multiple times throughout our time in the Big Apple. A simple story that gave us a great opportunity to explore the complexities of that moment, the beginning of the journey, and the process of overcoming. We want to present a truthful and authentic portrayal of two damaged people looking for hope and finding each other unexpectedly. That’s the New York City we've come to know and love. Strangers sharing a brief honest moment, then moving forward. Something post-COVID felt near impossible and still does. Because what if the one person you dismiss is the key to your heart?
We are currently in post-production. We filmed the short film and completed the production. We now need to complete the Editing, Credits, Music, Sound, and Color, and submit it to Festivals!
Your contribution will help us cover these costs as well as the Producer & Director Fee that have kindly been deferred. We have a big well-known festival in Los Angeles that we need to be ready for and this last crowdfunding campaign will help us complete our film, be ready for that festival, and many major festivals and opportunities to follow. As soon as we finish we will submit to festivals to showcase ourselves as Actors, Directors, and Filmmakers, with the goal to eventually sell to a streaming service like HBO or HULU that does buy and showcase short films. This will be a door opener for many of our artists to bigger and better opportunities to share their gifts with the world. So thank you! As soon as we hit the Festival Circuit we will let you know where we get in and what dates the screenings are because we would love to have you there. After the Festival Circuit, we will likely aim for a streaming release for those that weren't able to attend one of the festivals we get into. This is our last crowdfunding campaign once we complete this we will be fully funded and won't need any additional funding.
So I'm totally gonna ask you for two personal favors: can you go contribute? And, more importantly, can you post our campaign on your Facebook and Twitter pages? It would really mean a lot to me.
And for our Lead Producer and Actor, Rachel Cora Wood, she was highly influenced by her late filmmaking mentor, highly acclaimed film producer, Ed Vassallo, who always said, "If you want something, just make it happen." She is dedicating this film to him.
