Mission Statement

Women and non-binary filmmakers are craving community and support. The industry struggles to accommodate diverse & intersectional narratives. Our mission is to equip these filmmakers with resources and amplify their voices, paving way the way for a new generation of filmmakers.

The Story

Tell me the story of how you met Daddy, again?

Well, back in 2022, a group of amazing women decided they wanted to share the short films they had made with a few women directors they knew. What they thought would be a one-time event turned into something magical—a gathering of voices eager to showcase not just their own work but to celebrate the creations of other women and non-binary directors. And that's when the Founding Daddys ~ yes, Daddys (a reclaiming of the patriarchy if you will) ~ began curating these films into bi-monthly screenings. As the audience grew, something wonderful happened. First-time attendees became regulars, and soon, they were more than just viewers—they were friends. A vibrant community sprang up, fueled by a shared love for creativity and the joy of discovering new talent.

But the founders knew they could do more. They started hosting panel discussions, bringing in women and non-binary filmmakers from all corners of the industry—producers, showrunners, agents, editors, and more—to share their wisdom and experiences. The feedback was overwhelming; From new filmmakers to seasoned award winners, everyone was grateful for this space where they could connect, support each other, and feel less alone in a challenging industry.

Inspired by the incredible work of Women In Film, we decided to take it further. We started partnering with amazing companies like American Cinematheque to screen Patty Jenkins' original print of "Monster," starring Charlize Theron, adding another layer of prestige and excitement to our growing community.

And the audience? It kept growing and growing. From a cozy group of 30 to a bustling crowd of 100, 200, 350 and beyond! Submissions poured in from women and non-binary directors worldwide, showcasing diverse perspectives and stories. They even had to change venues three times in a year and a half to accommodate their expanding daddy community.

But that wasn't all. They decided to launch a podcast—a way to delve even deeper into the filmmaking world, with intimate conversations between award-winning filmmakers, top executives, incredible hustlers getting their first project off the ground.

So you see, daddy, it all began with a group of passionate women dreaming big, and now, they've created something truly special—a community where creativity flourishes, connections thrive, and daddy keeps growing stronger every day. Now, we're raising money to take Daddy to the next level. We need your support for podcast production, event curation, business management, and audience outreach. Every dollar helps us bring more amazing stories to light and continue building this incredible community.
