Story
Mission Statement
On the surface, "Poster Boy" is a tribute to the comical farces of the 1920s. But more than that, it's about love on many levels. Our intention is to bring together those who are passionate about film, film history, comedy, LGBTQ issues, embracing oneself, and bridging gaps. All that good stuff.About The Project
"Poster Boy" is the story of Stuart, a quiet, shy resident of the Castro neighborhood. His love life changes drastically one day when he discovers, to his astonishment, that a picture of him is circulating on posters for a gay nightclub. With the help of a magic box, Stuart tries to disguise himself to evade the crowds of his new fans. Hilarity ensues as he gets himself in more trouble, and he soon learns that he doesn't have to hide from who he really is.
This project will be done as a 1920s-style B&W silent comedy film, in the style of Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton. In addition to being a tribute to a pioneering form of storytelling, this film is a celebration of the diversity of the Castro neighborhood and its sense of humor. It will be distributed to many film festivals worldwide, including those focused on comedy, LGBTQ, international, etc

About This Team
Guillermo Gomez [writer/director/editor] grew up in Watsonville, CA, and has been living in Sunnyvale since 2002. A part-time video editor and avid TV watcher, he has developed a keen eye for directing and an immaculate sense of timing. Having been diagnosed with Asperger's at an early age, he has used film as a creative outlet to tell humorous stories with happy endings.
Guillermo attended DeAnza College to study animation, and graduated in 2005 with an AA degree in film/TV. Since then he has worked on many types of videos, including documentaries, weddings, dance recitals, music videos and trailers. Guillermo joined Scary Cow Productions in October 2014, and has since become one of the collective's most active participants, working on over 20 different projects in different capacities. In addition to Poster Boy, he is currently working as an editor on KOFY-TV's "Diva Talk Tonite".
Sion Shankel [producer] is a San Francisco filmmaker and member of the Scary Cow filmmaking incubator. She has worked on both features and shorts principally in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area and has long been active in both the LGBT and Leather communities. Sion is currently working with Guillermo Gomez as producer on his upcoming film, Poster Boy.
Rena Yamamoto [director of photography] grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area with a love of all thing science fiction, from William Gibson and Neal Stephenson to skateboards that can fly and robots that can clean houses. She graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a degree in computer science. She was quick to discover that her previous skill set was utterly irrelevant when it came to filmmaking, but she has never let ignorance stand in the way of making interesting and enjoyable creations. Thus came about award-winning science-fiction shorts written and directed by her, including Where No Jedi Has Gone Before and Qubitpunk. A member of the filmmaking cooperative Scary Cow, she has honed her craft collaborating with other filmmakers in various roles across dozens of short projects.
Gary Goldsborough [1st assistant director] is a filmmaker with the independent film co-operative Scary Cow. He has written, directed, and produced four award winning short films and worked on dozens of other films as 1st Assistant Director, Script Supervisor, and Production Assistant. Currently he is one of the founding partners and Executive Producers of Teen Chef USA; a competitive cooking show which features urban teens as the competitor chefs and is currently seeking distribution.
Michael Davenport [actor, Stuart] has been performing and teaching improv for 19 years and has started two Improv Theater Companies, CapCity Improv in Sacramento and Oaktown Improv in Oakland. He got his start in Chicago performing at Second City, The Annoyance and IO improv comedy theaters. Poster Boy is his first film role.
