Mission StatementPROVIDENCE draws attention to the challenges that women face after a sexual assault. Led by Lynia Love, a WOC who created the narrative, executive produced and stars in the film, our squad is a diverse group dedicated to uplifting independent films by people of color and women filmmakers.
About The Project
There is major unrest in the city when a serial sex rapist ravishes unsuspecting women at random, leaving virtually no evidence for police to trail. Detective SAVANNAH HUNTER is the lead detective on the case. Her brazen approach to police work leaves criminals unnerved and her superiors on edge, however, she gets the job done.
Providence is more than just a cop story. It dives deep into the emotional struggles that police officers often deal with in their personal lives while trying to protect and serve. SAVANNAH has tons of emotional baggage, some of which clouds her judgment while working high-profile cases. Her more level headed partner, Detective DJANGO HOOKS keeps her on a long leash, but often questions her antics in the field.
All eyes are on the police department, but more importantly on Detective Hunter as she makes her way through the case in an attempt to catch a rapist and put the city at ease. The big question is will Savannah be able to fight her own demons and crime at the same time.
We are now on the other side of our journey meaning post production. It took us a total of 14 days to film the intial footage and then COVID set us back some months but with site set safety training and moving as safely as possible we were able to complete principle photography at the end of 2020!
Some very long nights and early mornings were put into bringing this story to life. Now we can see the finish line just ahead and we need YOUR help to get there!
PROVIDENCE speaks to a microcosm of issues that real people deal with on a daily basis. This film takes a deep dive into the sociology of a rapidly deteriorating society, zeroing in on issues that can affect a person psyche as they try to lead a normal life. The film, based on a narrative by Lynia Love, speaks to topics such as sexual abuse, police brutality, depression, child abuse and much more. Providence is a timely film that addresses current and consequential issues that impact our society. Our goal with this film is to shed light on some of those issues with the hope that viewers will reflect and possibly relate to some of the characters within. We hope that audiences will feel empowered to know that they are not alone in dealing with those issues, and hopefully it will inspire individuals to seek help with the challenges within their own lives.
PROVIDENCE is a great story in itself, but perhaps the greatest story about Providence is the
story that isn’t told. Creating a movie is a huge undertaking that our creator, ep and leading lady Lynia Love was excited to take on because it began as a passion project, and grew into something more epic.
Lynia felt the constant rejection when it came to auditions and or being type cast for projects. She wanted to be able to show her abilities not only in front of the camera but behind it as well. Vision and execution were key components in completing this feature film. Lynia shared the vision and people believed in that vision and helped with the execution. The most amazing part of this story is how we executed our vision with limited resources and a commitment to succeed. Providence was made on a super micro budget, including our blood, sweat and tears. We have given everything to make this film and we hope that it will be well received.
