This project of passion is a unique and highly entertaining epic. There's never been a film made like this. The single narrative weaves through 15 different genres seamlessly. So far, our cast/crew has put in over 6500 hours of work. We're in the final stages of postproduction and we need your help.

The Story



Our story follows Joe Bell on his journey from bored, hermit accountant to hero. In the beginning, Joe doesn't live his life. He's a penny pincher and avoids anything out of his normal routine.  

One day, Joe meets a cryptic old man known as, The Clockmaker. The Clockmaker gives Joe a large chest filled with treasure.  (Un)fortunately for Joe, the Clockmaker "accidentally" locks the chest and the key is nowhere to be found.

To claim the treasure, Joe must abandon his old way of living and set out on a life changing quest to find the key. His pursuit of the key takes him on a series of adventures and each adventure is a different genre.   

Joe eventually finds the key around the neck of a beautiful and sassy young lady named, Abbey.  He begins to fall in love with her as he pursues her for the key.  By odd circumstance, Abbey is kidnapped just as she's about to give Joe the key. He must rescue her if he has any hope of attaining wealth or love. 


Shooting on Saving For The Day has wrapped. There are 25 speaking roles and nearly 200 background actors. We shot 77 days of principal photography and 28 days of second unit photography. To date, the cast & crew has put in a combined 6,500 hours of work on this project. It has been a long, but rewarding road.


  Why We Need Your Help

We have worked tirelessly fueled only by a shoestring budget and passion to get to this point. However, we can go no further without your help. We are now in the early stages of post production which is both expensive and labor-intenstive. 


The Importance of Post Production

 Post production is the difference between a good movie and a great movie. The film is currently in rough cut form. Our next step is to finalize the edit so that the remaining five stages of post production can begin. They are:

• VISUAL EFFECTS are necessary for subtle elements (sky replacement, fall color enhancement, etc.), obvious effects (laser blasts, spaceships, etc.), and matte paintings (create exotic locations, set extensions, etc.).

• COLOR GRADING to stylize the images to match the appropriate genre.

• SOUND DESIGN brings the film to life by adding foley (footsteps, doors closing, keys jingling, etc.) and sound effects (gun shots, swords clanking, space ship engines, etc.)

• MUSICAL SCORE is the heart of the film.  This film is a roller coaster ride through 15 different genres and the score will escort us through the journey while enhancing each genre along the way.

• FINAL SOUND MIX & MASTERING will balance and combine the dialogue, foley, sound effects, and music.

What Makes This Project Different?

There is one major difference between this project and many other film projects. We aren't asking for funds to go make a movie. The movie has already been made. Hundreds of people have worked for thousands of hours to get to this point. YOU ARE THE KEY to completing the final leg of this epic project of passion. About This Team


Andy Shirtliff (“Joe Bell”) was born in Butte and raised in Kalispell, Montana. he got his acting start in front of his grandmother's camcorder. After graduating from Flathead High School in Kalispell, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of breaking into show business. While there, he became eligible for SAG and AFTRA through work on commercials, TV shows, music videos, and film. Some notable projects he worked on are: The Hot Chick, Gigli, and Old School. Making education a priority, he elected to return to Montana and attend the University of Montana. He became a spokesperson for various causes. He has worked on multiple film projects since returning to Montana. He finds more contentment working on local projects Montana projects with Montana talent than his experiences in L.A. In 2009, he graduated with a degree in Political Science. His dedication to Montana and its people is evident in his work on two political administrations (Sweitzer and Bullock) and various social and political campaigns. He is a charter member of Capital City Kiwanas, and host of 2014 TedX Whitefish.

Lindsey Zacharisen (“Abbey”) was born and raised in Missoula, Montana. Her passion for acting began at the tender age of 6 years old, when she participated in the Missoula Children's Theater. She feels fortunate to have been able to pursue her love of acting in Montana, through theater, film, television, and modeling. Film highlights include Terror Vortex and Life and Times of an American Playboy. In 2011, she attended The Global Stars Network Competition held in the Bahamas. She was named Best Overall Actress, first place in Runway Walk for her division, and first in Best Photo for her division. She is currently pursuing her acting career in New York, but her heart will always belong to Montana and it's wonderful people.

Jeff Medley (“Kevin”) hails from Missouri, but has happily been making Missoula his home for several years. He works in the Missoula Public School system. Jeff began acting in 2008. Since then, he has been in numerous theatrical and film productions. He had a small role in the film Winter In The Blood, and recently played Monsieur Thenardier in the Missoula Community Theater’s production of Les Miserables. He loves the opportunity that film and theater provide to reinvent himself and explore different personalities. He recently co-starred in "Subterranea" and "Timber The Treasure Dog." Jeff thoroughly enjoys working with all the amazingly talented people he has met throughout Montana. 

Richard 'Ric' John Parnell (“Ricardo”) is a rock cult icon, best known for his role as ill- fated drummer, Mick Shrimpton, in Rob Reiner's debut film, This Is Spinal Tap. Born in London 1951, Ric was raised in a family of noted entertainers and became a drummer by default. His first professional job was with Engelbert Humperdinck. He later went on to work with such notable musicians as Bette Midler, Billy Idol, Hunt and Tony Sales, Ravi Shankar, Bryan Adams, Chaka Kahn, and the bands Atomic Rooster and Nova. Most notably he provided the drums for Toni Basil's 1982 number 1 hit, 'Mickey'. Ric found his way to Missoula after a tour visit with blues legend, Joe Houston. Falling in love with the strong art culture of Missoula, he decided to stay. He now resides in East Missoula, recording and gigging with multiple bands.

Lily Gladstone (“Hostess”) Lily Gladstone was raised on the Blackfeet Reservation in Northwestern Montana. Of mixed heritage, Lily’s tribal affiliations include Kainai, Amskapi Piikani and Nimi'ipuu First Nations. In 2008, she graduated with high honors from the University of Montana with a BFA in Acting, and a minor in Native American studies.  Film credits include Kelly Reichardt's Certain Women, Alex and Andrew Smith’s Winter in the Blood, Arnaud Desplechin’sJimmy P, and Sarah Adina Smith’s Buster’s Mal Heart.  She has thrice toured nationally with The Montana Repertory Theater. In addition to garnering multiple film and theater credits, she has facilitated countless expressive arts workshops with various social justice and human rights advocacy groups - including National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center,Living Voices, Red Eagle Soaring, Longhouse Media, Yellow Bird Inc., The Roxy Film Academy and Conscious Alliance. Her emphasis is youth outreach and education.


John D. Nilles (Producer/Writer/Director)
John discovered his passion for filmmaking at an early age and has never wavered in the pursuit of realizing his vision. His great-great-great grandfather homesteaded in the Bitterroot Valley in Montana. The same ambitious and adventurous spirit possessed by his forefathers, compels John today. He has directed short films, commercials, documentaries, corporate videos, animations, and music videos, but his primary focus is on feature films. He is particularly fond of Westerns and Science Fiction. John currently splits time between Los Angeles and Montana. 


Casey Bays (Executive Producer) was raised in the heart of the Bitterroot, Corvallis, Montana. In high school, Casey was a highly touted athlete. His hard work and dedication was rewarded by receiving the honor of becoming a member on the University of Montana's Grizzly Football Team. Far from inland Montana, Casey scored a career in Berring Sea fishing. While there, he became a deckhand on the Deadliest Catch, where he gained intimate knowledge of the cameramen and their duties while working on his boat, the “Kiska Sea.” Shortly after, he propelled himself into the world of reality TV on another show, Dangerous Waters. In 2013, he was employed to assist in filming the show, and climbed his way to head cameraman. He broke the mold of mariners on small vessels in 2014 by riding a jet ski, and filming his journey from Iceland to Greece...the first expedition of it's kind.

Josh Wagner (Associate Producer) moved to Montana when he was eleven years old. Since then he has traveled the world, but he considers Montana his true home and he always comes back. He currently lives in Missoula where he writes and produces plays for his theatre company, Viscosity. Wagner's film goals include writing and producing shorts and features that make the most of Montana's unique culture and landscape. His latest novel, Smashing Laptops, takes place in Missoula. Over the last decade his books, comics, and short stories have been published extensively. His next novel, inspired by his high school years growing up in the Bitterroot Valley, will come out this fall through Asymmetrical Press.

Kara Chandler (Costume Designer)

is a Costume Technician for MCT, Inc: The Missoula Children's Theater and Missoula Community Theater. She has been a part of the home staff there for the last 12 years. She graduated from Helena High School, where she was part of the Drama Team/Speech & Debate Team and participated as stage manager, running crew, and performer in high school plays. It is the storytelling that she most appreciates about performance, and does her best to support that aspect with her work. She loves the fact that she can pursue the career she loves and still live in beautiful Montana.

Jenni Johnson (Production Manager) moved to Missoula, Montana from Lake Havasu, Arizona when she was 15 years old. Even while she was in high school, she became very active with local organizations with an emphasis on bringing attention to Missoula and Montana. By the time she was 22, she was president of the local Arabian Horse association, and was in charge of organizing and producing local and regional horse shows. During that time, she attended the University of Montana with a focus toward veterinary medicine. While attending the UM, she took an acting for non- majors class, and was encouraged by her professor to pursue theater and film. In 2008, she became involved with the Stevensville Playhouse, where she made her directorial and stage debuts.
