Mission Statement

We want to take your shame away. Suicidal ideation is extremely prevalent, but there is so much shame in talking about it & asking for help. Our hope for this film is to connect with people who feel similarly, make them feel less alone, and encourage them to unpack where those feelings come from.

The Story

Spinning out of control. Thoughts swirling around you and you can’t break free. Spiraling toward a tiny point in the distance, an end that never comes, a bottom that never catches you. A desperate and futile search to find the way out.

Spiral is about a young woman named Marina who is battling intrusive thoughts. At the end of a long day trying to ignore her callous inner voice, she finally confronts it and is surprised at what/who she discovers. It’s about finding a path to self love and healing, finding the strength to stop and ask for help, and putting an end to the constant thought spiral. Can Marina find herself in the every day struggle to stay alive?

This film will use a combination of traditional and experimental film techniques to make the audience feel like they are a part of Marina’s lived experience. Viewers will feel like they are in her mind with her, experiencing her intrusive thoughts with her.

Director's Statement

This is a deeply personal and vulnerable story. Suicidal ideation is something that has just been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, in a way that I’ve never heard anyone else really talk about. My hope is to make a dent in the shame we all carry around this subject. Because that shame keeps those feelings festering in darkness. Instead of carrying hate or disgust towards people who feel the urge to end it, I’m hoping to bring some people over to the side of empathy and caring. The more we talk about these things, the less power they have over us. I also know some of my breakthroughs came from feeling like I wasn’t the only one. If I can make even one person feel less alone, this will be worth it.

I have spent over a decade of my career working as a script supervisor in every genre imaginable. I think the best films have aspects of many genres, but hold on to one overall tone. This film is a drama, with elements of horror, suspense, comedy, and experimentation. I want to make you feel something, as any storyteller does.

Because I have spent so much time working as a below-the-line crew member, I know how hard my team will be working for me and the value that they will bring to the production. That is why my main production cost is paying my cast and crew. Even with your help, I will still only be able to provide minimum wage rates, which is far below what these professionals deserve. My biggest concern, over everything else, is taking care of my team. I hope you can help me make them feel valued and appreciated. They deserve it.
