Mission Statement

Through martial arts and comedy, The Bus Boy tells a story that for many people is a bleak reality: working endless hours in a service industry job for poor wages and heinous treatment. This story is made BY and FOR those people, giving them a voice while giving the rest of the world a laugh.

The Story

In the gritty world of the restaurant industry, The Bus Boy introduces us to Brick Bùsse (portrayed by William Magnuson)—a young man trapped in the lowest rungs of the culinary ladder. Faced with long hours, meager wages, and dehumanizing treatment, Brick yearns for an escape from this bleak existence. His ambition centers on ascending to the revered rank of Sous-Chef—a formidable warrior class that commands admiration and terror, bound by an unwavering devotion to their executive chefs.

However, Brick's aspirations are suddenly derailed when he is unceremoniously fired from his job, thrusting him into a heart-pounding chain of events. Amidst the chaos, his only friend is tragically murdered, and a mysterious injection endows him with extraordinary martial arts powers. Yet, this newfound power proves fickle, forcing Brick to confront the question: What is true power, and where does it come from?

The Bus Boy serves up high-stakes action and introspection as Brick grapples with the true nature of strength and the quest for self-determination. With each electrifying twist and pulse-pounding fight, our unlikely hero embarks on a transformative journey, unmasking the essence of power and unlocking the keys to his own destiny.

Initially introduced as a formidable villain, he becomes the relentless pursuer of a coveted artifact held by an associate of Brick Bussé, making him the ultimate adversary. With an aura of darkness and an unwavering commitment to his mission, The Man In Black plays a crucial role in the wider narrative of this series. The Man In Black's presence looms large, hinting at a backstory yet to be explored.

Rooted in genuine passion and personal experience, The Bus Boy goes beyond the genre of action comedy that pays homage to classic martial arts and action films. Max Perkins and William Magnuson, with a shared background in martial arts—Max in Tae Kwon Do and William in Jeet Kune Do—found themselves slinging fried chicken in an Austin, Texas restaurant. Their shared love for cinema deepened their friendship, fueling their aspirations of breaking free from the restaurant industry and establishing their own film production company, Wrong Brother Productions.

Having produced a myriad of sketches, commercials, and short films, Max and William are now ready to embark on their most audacious venture yet—the rebirth of The Bus Boy. Drawing inspiration from their time in the restaurant industry, their immersion in the martial arts community, and the vibrant Austin film scene, this project is deeply personal. It's an exhilarating culmination of their dreams, fears, and aspirations.

The Bus Boy isn't just a lighthearted spoof; it's a heartfelt testament to their shared journey, filled with the highs and lows of pursuing their passions. With each scene, The Bus Boy is infused with their unwavering dedication and commitment, making it a true labor of love that resonates with audiences on multiple levels.

We're aiming high with a fundraising goal of $20,000. We know, it sounds like a hefty sum, but it's crucial to ensure a production that's safe, fair, and seamlessly brings our ambitious vision to fruition.

These funds will be allocated towards essential aspects like crew salaries, equipment rentals, location expenses, prop and costume acquisitions, as well as post-production necessities. After all, if we want to whip up an extraordinary cinematic omelet, we'll need to gather the ingredients, and $20k is the key ingredient for success!

If we are able to surpass our initial goal of 20k, the excess funds will be used to improve our gear selection and bump up rates for the hard working crew.
