Mission Statement

Or film is crewed by and stars Black and Brown men and women who understand the importance that our past has on our future. This story resonates with myself and my team and at this cultural crossroads in history we want to pass that conversation and understanding to the rest of the world.

The Story

In the not-so-distant future, Chronos has discovered the means by which humans can travel through time. There are a set of rules: Time travel can only happen to the past as the future does not exist. You cannot choose the time period you visit, you get what you're given. The location you arrive in the past is determined by the location you depart from.

For their first mission Chronos is seeking a candidate who represents the best of America and they find that in ex-marine Gary Freeman. Gary's military background, interest in history and anthropology, and his skin color made him the poster child for Chronos' maiden voyage.

As you can imagine there are many dangers in time travel: the potential for your particles to be scattered about the universe, an inability to return to your current timeline, an alteration of all dimensional timelines, but the one danger that seems to be most overlooked is the danger of be Black in time.

Gary must convince his wife, who is pregnant with their first child, and himself that this adventure is worth the risk and more importantly must come to terms with the importance of his own personal mission.

The Chrononaut is special. It is an idea that has been with me for some time and stepping into the sci-fi genre is something I've wanted to do since I was 10 but in the past year I realized how important this film is in this socio-political climate. One of the most important conversations surrounding Black life has been the struggle of Black people past, present, and future. Are things really better now than they were 400 years ago? I would argue that if you were to send a Black person back to 1821 or yesterday in 2021 they would experience nuanced dangers that make living difficult and dangerous and this film aims to address that.

Along with the advent of billionaire commercial space travel in a world where people are dying of curable disease, discussions about the ethical nature of capitalism as it exists today, and the ongoing discourse surrounding race in America I believe The Chrononaut fills a void in entertainment that touches on the all of these topics and raises questions that push the dialogue forward while building an engaging world.

CoVid-19 has added obvious obsticles to production and it is important that we keep our cast and crew safe. Some of the funds raised here will ensure that testing can and is happening regularly, as well as retaining proper PPE for everyone on set. These items are small but minimizing the risk for cast and crew is of the utmost importance and we want to make sure that everyone feels safe while working on set so they can focus on their craft.

This project is still in its early stages and that is why your help is so vital. We have secured the majority of our above the line crew, our lead actor, and are in the process of setting shoot dates in ealry Decmeber. The goal is to complete filming before Christmas and final delivery by January of 2022. From there we will be submitting the film to run in the festival circuit and realease to you, the public, in the summer of 2022.

Our $10,000 goal is the bare minimum we need to complete this project, with more money we will be able to accomplish more both on set and in the future without having to explout the talents and time of our cast and crew.

  • IF WE RASIE $15,000 we will be able to cover post production fees which include editting, color, sound mixes and festival submissions.
  • IF WE RAISE $20,000 we will be able to pay our crew full day rates as opposed to flat rates. Paying people for their time is key to fostering a healthy and fulfilling work environment and we want to be able to provide that for our crew.
  • IF WE RAISE $25,000 we will have contingency that can enhance the art department needs. With a film that is both science fiction and period it is important that we sell the world and production design, wardrobe, and props are a really large part of that.
