Story
Mission Statement
Perspective is the key theme behind The Search for Alexander as a production. Creatives from various backgrounds will be working in key roles behind and in front of the camera to bring the vision of director Zach Garrigus to life and to tell a story that will resonate beyond the student film sphere.About The Project
The Search for Alexander is writer/director Zach Garrigus' senior capstone project as a Film and Moving Image major at Stevenson University. Zach and his crew have been studying and working in film for four years, and The Search for Alexander will represent the culmination of their work as students and the bridge to their future in the world of filmmaking.
The Search for Alexander is an abstract, experimental narrative, inspired by European Slow Cinema of the 1970s. In the film, a man named Alexander sits beside a trail in an open field, with no idea who he is or how he got there. As travelers make their way along the trail, Alexander shares stories with the passersby, hoping to find some meaning in his situation and eventually learn the truth of who he really is.
In addition to taking influence from films by arthouse directors like Andrei Tarkovsky, Ingmar Bergman, and Werner Herzog, the look and feel of The Search for Alexander will also reference prominent, crowd pleasing films of the New Hollywood movement by artists like Brian De Palma, Ridley Scott, and Clint Eastwood, especially during a sequence that excitingly visualizes one of the stories Alexander hears on the trail.
Shooting is scheduled for the first three weekends of March, 2023, but we are currently deep in preproduction, evaluating costs, sourcing props and production design, booking locations, and casting actors to make The Search for Alexander the best film it can possibly be. We have locked in actors for most of our major roles, and our entire crew is hired, ready, and raring to go. Still, we need your help to make this film happen!
With your donations, we'll be able to rent advanced, industry standard equipment to better realize certain scenes, pay for vital locations for filming, submit the film to festivals around the world, and much more. Plus, donations come with perks like social media shoutouts, signed posters, and even executive producer credits on the finished film. Even if you can't donate to the production, passing the word on to friends and family is appreciated! Share our campaign on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, email...even handwritten letters if you want to! Every little helps!
The Search for Alexander will premiere at the 2023 Stevenson University Film and Moving Image Program Senior Showcase before being submitted to festivals across the United States and Europe. Stay tuned for updates on festival acceptances after the film has been completed!
