Healthcare support staff and Home Health aides risk much everyday. Many of them were considered expected & acceptable losses during the tragedies of 2020. Our NYC team, is using horror to push extremes in examining the power dynamics for those who must work no matter the danger.

THE ÚRI is about a woman (Shouna), who is forced into a dangerous situation because of financial instability. After losing her small business, Shouna becomes a Home Health aide as a means to pay the bills.

 

 

Her first day on the job she works as a caretaker for Dr. Doug's much younger wife, Heather. While she follows Dr. Doug's detailed instructions, Shouna finds herself as an unwilling participant to his sinister plans.

 

 

This year has applied pressure unequally across society & especially amongst those most at risk. Our elder care & home health support have no choice but to tie expose themselves to the life threatening situations that come with the title of "essential worker".

 

 

THE ÚRI explores the power dynamics of class, race, & gender in a society that values narcissism & personal wealth over the health & safety of others. 

 

The world of THE ÚRI is a bright & caged world - a vessel that hides its secrets & dangers in plain sight. Drawing on inspiration from the naturally lit horror films like Ari Aster's Midsommar, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, & Dawn of the Dead - we are looking to create an environment that invites you in & then wraps its arms tightly around your body.

We are using a tight color palette of earth tones (browns, tans, ochre, terracotta) with hints of blue sprinkled throughout. 

Lighting will utilize naturally lit, bright, & at times blinding white light coming from the outside.

At times seeing light through windows (at times blinding on its own) with moments of silhouette & blurred moving characters in the background.

Music & Sound are characters of their own - working in tandem with the environment they inhabit to manipulate & attack our protagonist. Using minimal instruments & vocal undertones, our score allows every note to live just underneath your skin, waiting to break free.

 

We have so far been able to raise about half of our desired budget (10K raised), which has allowed us to get a good jump start on our pre-production for the film: casting is nearly complete, teasers have been filmed, the score is being written, & we are starting to scout locations for filming!

But we need YOUR SUPPORT to help us reach our total budget so we can really bring our dream ideas for this film to life.

Your support will go towards a stellar location (renting a NYC penthouse condo is not cheap!)

All of our cast & crew will be paid, but with your support we will be able to pay all of our collaborators a more proper stipend.

And of course, no horror film is complete without some specialized props, costumes, & blood effects - your support will help us there too!
