The Red Sedan is a graduate thesis short film based on the director's early childhood experiences and the obstacles their mother had to overcome when fleeing an abusive household. We want to start conversations about the lasting impacts of domestic abuse.

Mission Statement
Hi, I'm Chris, a graduate film student at UCA. Through my storytelling, I actively fight for a world of acceptance and opportunity because I believe diversity promotes unity. I myself am Enby and my team will be filled with talented people of all genders, ethnicities, sexualities and backgrounds.About The Project
- First we want the film to be socially impactful. The film will raise awareness of domestic abuse and advocate for those affected by it. We will be donating a portion of our future profits to organizations that give support to families and individuals who have suffered from domestic abuse. By supporting this film, you're advocating for giving help to those who need it the most.
- Two, we want to showcase the potential of diverse storytellers. Our crew will consist of over 50% women, a plethora of nationalities and a strong representation of members from the LGBTQI+ community. By supporting this film, you're helping to give a voice to those who have had to fight for it in the past.
- Third, we want to showcase the potential of Central Arkansas filmmaking. We believe we have a growing community of talented and hungry filmmakers that will surpass expectations once given the chance. By supporting this film, you're promoting independent filmmakers and artists in Arkansas.
- Lastly, our director, Chris Talley will be pursuing a career in television after graduating from the University of Central Arkansas' MFA program. In many ways, this film will be a showcase to potential employers and studios that Chris is someone deserving of an opportunity. By supporting this film, you're propeling a local filmmaker's dream of having a successful career on the big stage.
Our goal is to raise $12,500 on Seed&Spark for production. This covers cast and crew wages, food and craft services, travel and accommodations, locations, a portion of equipment rentals.
If we raise $15,000 we'll be able to cover the costs of advanced equipment rentals!
If we raise $17,500 we'll be able to cover basic editing costs!
If we raise $18,500 we'll be able to pay for our festival fees!
If we raise $20,000 we'll be able to cover advanced editing costs!
Additional funding includes:
$5,000 personal funds
$3,000 school grants
$1,500 private funding
For those interested, we also accept donations in the form of locations, props, craft services, and good wishes! More than anything, we’re just happy to have you be a part of our film’s community.
Much of the film takes place in ordinary, everyday places; lower-middle class homes, cars, gas stations and parking lots. The message should be clear, these problems can happen to anyone, anywhere. Domestic abuse is a universal problem that needs more recognition.
As for our story, the world of Rachel and Jonah is often rundown, crumbling places whose glory days are behind them. Small, krempt, and worn, very few places in the film provide relief from their problems.
The symbol of their journey comes from their means of leaving, a small, paint-chipped red sedan. The vehicle is in questionable condition and the success of their escape hinges on the beat-up car.
The look of the film is split between night and day. During the day, the world is evenly lit, with a minimalistic dull consistency. The film will reflect the everyday nature of the story it is telling. A soft blue will overcast much of the daytime.
Once night comes however, the energy and emotion of the film rises. In their world of uncertainty, the lighting becomes stylized with high contrasts of light and a punchy teal-orange color scheme.
Lastly, the cinematography of the film will be smooth and wide-angled. In an effort to minimize the melodramatics of the film, shaky-cam will seldom be used. Additionally, because of the small spaces of the film, most of the film will be shot on wide-angle lenses. This will give the film an interesting look, as wide-angle close ups are less common in Hollywood style movies.
There will be a free public showing of the film in April, so we hope you’ll join us. Following this premiere, the film will be submitted to select festivals.
Safety in times of a worldwide pandemic is very important to us. For this reason we are willing to take the biosecurity precautions needed to keep everyone in our cast and crew safe.
Most of our cast and crew will be vaccinated. Testing will also be made available for everyone.
Sharing our campaign on your social media will get us a step closer in bringing “The Red Sedan” to life.

Current Team
About This Team
The Director:
Christopher Talley- Chris is currently getting their MFA degree in Film from the University of Central Arkansas. They are an aspiring screenwriter with hopes of one day becoming a showrunner for a television show. This film is both their Master's capstone project as well as a personal tribute to their mother.
"This script comes from some of my early childhood experiences and is a story I've been figuring out how to tell for years. I hope that it can be an illuminating short that reopens conversations about domestic abuse and pushes for positive advocacy and awareness. By sharing mine and mother's story, I want to explore the complexities of domestic abuse that are often very difficult to talk about. Thank you for taking the time to become a part of this film's community and I'm excited to put together a film whose impact goes well beyond myself. "
Excutive Producer:
Nathaly Moreno - A Honduran Filmmaker and Photographer with a Bachelor of Arts in Filmmaking from the University of Central Arkansas. Nathaly’s passion lies behind the camera. She wrote and directed her own award winning short film, Mario's Journal, a story about a hispanic child living in a brothel run by his mother. Aside from independent projects, Nathaly has worked in the film production team for landscape designer and lifestyle expert P. Allen Smith as a production assistant, micro content editor and YouTube content manager. She interned at marketing agency CJRW in Little Rock as a production intern and for Arkansas PBS in their marketing and production departments. Nathaly is passionate about social issues and is an aspiring documentary filmmaker."This project is very inspiring to me as I come from a developing country where domestic violence, violence toward women, and poverty are very prominent issues. In hopes to increase awareness and advocate for victims of this kind of abuse and neglect, I joined this project and I am excited to work with this wonderful team"
Producer:
Mindy’s love of performing and the arts culminated when she was cast in her first lead role in a short film about domestic violence in the fall of 2013. Since then she has gained experience on sets of studio films and network tv shows and by working as Producer, Associate Producer, Production Designer, Production Manager, Assistant Director, Key Craft Services, Locations Scout and Production Assistant. At the moment, she has an independent feature film in pre-production and is developing a documentary feature, a docuseries, and another independent feature film as well.
Currently the Director of Operations for the Oxford Film Festival in Oxford, Mississippi, Mindy is also the former Director of Development and Interim Executive Director for the nonprofit Film Society of Little Rock (FSLR) and Kaleidoscope LGBQT Film Festival, former Operations Director for the world renowned Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival (HSDFF), and was the Assistant Festival Director of the Fantastic Cinema Film Festival.
When she is not working on the set of a project or coordinating festival events and logistics for the OXFF, being a standardized patient for University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Arkansas Children’s Hospital or a fit model for Dillard’s, Mindy enjoys collaborating, traveling and spending time with the love of her life, actor and United States Air Force pilot, Zack Ratkovich and the “A-Team”, her talented and beautiful daughters, Avelyn and Andersyn.Director of Photography:
Khoi Nguyen is an aspiring cinematographer from Vietnam. Born in Saigon, his curiosity led him to Texas when he was eleven and began his exploration into art in the form of music. He strives to find that ultimate form of articulation. Yet, despite his efforts, he could not fully express his vision through just music. Looking through the lens of a camera then led to his discovery of cinematography. He earned his B.A. degree in Mass Communication from Sam Houston State and his M.F.A. in Cinematography from Chapman University. He completely immersed himself in this rich art form through his academic and professional endeavors, which helped him advance his learning and experience. Each new discovery awakened a hunger for more and inspired him to seek new ways to tell stories.
Co-Production Designer
Amalia Eddings is an Colombian-American Filmmaker born and raised in Arkansas with a Bachelor of Arts in Filmmaking from the University of Central Arkansas. Amalia has worked as an editor/co-producer for the Arkansas-based independent production company Mudroom Films for the past year, primarily working on the feature documentary, "The 'Vous", about the lives of the waiters at the internationally famous BBQ restaurant, The Rendezvous. In 2019, she interned at Vanishing Angle, a Los Angeles based production company known for Sundance and SXSW winning film "Thunder Road ''. In 2020/2021, she produced an Arkansas-made independent feature "Llego Hoy '' and short film "Moth" both of which have been executive produced by Mudroom Films.
