The Story
Our scripted audio series began in season one with best friends Cici and Funks unlocking their ‘melanated powers’ on their 21st birthday. This awakening sent them through portals, trapped them in closets, and even had them laying it all out before the Judge. In SEASON TWO, the girls face even bigger risks as they embark on missions given to them by the Council of Black Folk. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Complex undergoes reconfiguration in a major way, introducing new co-workers, foes, and dare we say management, which has the girls exploring what it truly means to be a squad. Will the girls be able to stand on business? Or will the business of an everyday black life overwhelm Cici and Funks? Stay tuned for season 2 to find out!
TWENTYONE 21 is a story that was created by us, for us, and displays the fullness of who we are. Through storytelling, our creative team wanted to immerse our listeners into a cultural experience that encompasses all that makes the Black community both UNIQUE and RELATABLE, not just across the diaspora but around the world. Between our music, superstitions, struggles, friendships, etc... we are creating a world of our own with a taste of home- the DMV-Universe (DMV-U: DC, Maryland, Virginia and Baltimore)--- you feel me!
In true millennial fashion, our team seeks to bring back that feel-good Saturday day morning program while at the same time addressing real issues that we deal with today like unemployment, cultural appropriation, family dynamics, dating/ relationship, paying bills and all of the things.
Think of your favorite television show or book... now, close your eyes and imagine hearing the episode 100% audio only. And there you have it! Well, sort of lol. A scripted audio series is everything that you would get in a regular tv show, series or film minus the visual. You have the story (script) being acted out by voice actors, while at the same time creating an immersive experience by creating a realistic environment through ambient noise and music.
It's almost like a resurgence of the old-time radio shows that our grandparents grew up on. Now, the world of narrative audio is still very new but fast growing in the realm of podcasting. While most scripted audio series still heavily consist of crime, murder mysteries and horror, TwentyOne 21 Podcast has been one of the pioneers for scripted audio COMEDY.
After the success of season one, 5 nominations and 4 WINS to be exact, season 2 showrunners, Courtney Marie Simpson and Donnell D Weezy Robinson, got back to work and WE ARE IN THE CREATIVE TRENCHES! Okay, that was a little intense but we’re creatives so OF COURSE we’re going to be dramatic! From Fall of 2024 to first half of 2025 we spent hours on hours brainstorming concepts for season two, holding auditions, writing scripts, composing original songs, booking studio time and everything that goes into making a new season. Now that the story is finalized and the cast is locked in, production has begun! As with season one, season two is being produced 100% independently. Every dollar that you help us raise goes towards paying our cast, sound engineer, graphic designer and studio time.
We aim to release our first episodes in June 2025 and who knows, after we hit our goal you all may see us in the running again for some awards come the 2026 season. And who knows.. maybe even the big screen!

About This Team
Courtney Marie Simpson- Creator, Executive Producer, Writer, Voice Actor
Courtney Marie Simpson was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in the most gorgeous Prince George's County, Maryland. After years as a closeted writer and a longstanding career as a mental health therapist Courtney decided to take her own advice and take a leap of faith in embarking on her acting journey in 2019. Since then she has gone on to score lead and supporting roles in Giant Food commercials, independent films, television and theatre. In 2022, Courtney sought to expand her skillset into voice acting and not even two full years after her first lesson, she had gone on to co-create, write, executive produce and star as the lead, CICI, in her own scripted audio series: TWENTYONE 21 PODCAST. Now, gearing up for season 2 of the same series Courtney is ready to leave it all on the mic and show the world what she's made of.
Donnell ‘D Weezy’ Robinson- Executive Producer, Writer, Songwriter, Voice Actor
What’s good yall? My name is Donnell ‘ D Weezy’ Robinson. I was born and raised in Baltimore City, and I currently live in the DC area. I write scripts, produce music, play multiple musical instruments, and have creatively directed and performed in plays, step shows, and many other large scale productions since I was 6 years old. While I supplied a few of the voices in TwentyOne 21 season 1, this season I really wanted to challenge myself as a writer, taking time to study the writing/scoring on some of my favorite shows like Game of Thrones, Power Rangers, Family Guy, etc.… This season I’m most excited for the audience to hear how I’ve improved my songwriting abilities, and the different genres of music in each of the episodes. I promise yall will not be disappointed!
Chris Sakyi - Producer, Voice Actor
Born and raised in the gritty charm of the Maryland-D.C. area, Chris Sakyi (just “Sakyi” to most) caught the acting bug in 2019 and never looked back. In Season 1, he brought multiple characters to life—most notably Fabian, Funk’s love interest. For Season 2, Sakyi returns with brand-new characters and a deeper, more unexpected side of Fabian. When he’s not behind the mic, you can catch Sakyi on-screen in projects like Trophy Wife (BET, 2022), or in Wicked City (ALLBLK, 2022) lighting up the screen.
TwentyOne 21 SEASON 2 CAST:
With production assistance from Cai Diggs, Moriah Ray, Justin Ferguson, and Jasmine Whittington.
