Story
Mission Statement
We are a group of dedicated and passionate film students that are eager to share such a raw and empowering story. Though we are young & come from different backgrounds, Waiting For Beckett is a universal reflection of the difficulties and realities that we all face with the threat of losing someone.About The Project
We are a group of seven driven filmmakers in our senior year of college, ready to showcase our talents. Over the last four years, our classes, internships, and clubs have prepared us to create an impactful, eye-catching, and visual masterpiece of a film. We are excited to bring Waiting for Beckett to life and share a story that is underlooked. Despite making a film during a pandemic, it hasn’t stopped us from fulfilling our dreams since freshman year. We hope that you can help make our dreams come true. This film means everything to our team and could lead us to opportunities and experiences that we could never possibly imagine.
Waiting for Beckett follows a teen boy, Danny, in the waiting room of a hospital after his brother, the titular character, Beckett, has been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. In the room with him is his homophobic and desperate father, and Beckett’s outspoken, yet secret, boyfriend. Tensions arise while the three are trapped in the waiting room, awaiting for a chance to visit Beckett. It’s raw, gripping, and heart-breaking, but all about family and the idea of coming together in a time where everything seems to be in shambles.
The purpose of our film is to tell a story of family, of toxic masculinity in the 80s, and of a stigma around a disease that continues to affect the lives of many.
We have been working on Waiting for Beckett since June 2021, and now it's time where we need YOUR help! There is a lot that goes into creating a short film, especially a period piece, so every dollar counts. We need to make our film look like the 1980s, despite being made in 2022, so your contributions will allow us to create an 80s makeover!
Your donations will help cover the costs of casting, locations, props, costumes, festival fees, equipment, and so much more. This will bring our film to the next level but we can't make that happen without your help. To say thank you for donating, we have included a list of incentives and will be holding three different giveaways on our social media platforms! This is the first time where we get to express our creativity and share a story that means a lot to us, so the support would mean the entire world.
We also hope to set aside a percentage to donate to Leeway. Leeway is Connecticut’s first and only nursing home solely dedicated to the housing and specialized treatment of people living with AIDS. We hope whatever we can donate to Leeway can help in any way possible to combat this illness, as well as help its survivors.
Check out some of our inspirations and influences from the team!
We hope you are as excited as we are to see Waiting for Beckett on the big screen. Your generous donations and help will allow us to share Beckett's world to hundreds, maybe even thousands. We only have this one chance to make Beckett's story come to life, and you don't want to miss out. Any donation amount will bring us one step closer to making this happen and is sincerely appreciated. Join us on a journey like never before, be Beckett's hero.
