Sleep deprivation can impinge detrimental effects to brain functions, mental processes, and behavior. It is a state that must not be ignored since it can end up to worse heath conditions. Sleep deprivation treatment is important since it prevents irreversible physical, social, and psychological complications set in.


Sleep deprivation depends on its cause. Generally, the common approaches include an assessment of the lifestyle to determine the causative factor and the education of the patient. These are done in order to establish the real cause of sleeplessness. Educating the patient about sleep or the lack of it may lead to easy finding of solutions, too. Some say lack of melatonin ( a type of hormone released  by the pineal gland; a tiny gland in the brain, can cause sleep deprivation since it's the one controlling a person's wake and sleep cycles. Hence, those who suffer from sleep deprivation are asking how much melatonin to take to solve their problem. Still, there are many ways to combat this problem, as will be discussed in this article.


The sleep deprivation treatment may be done in sleep treatment centers and may entail spending a night or two for a thorough evaluation of the cause. The standard sleep deprivation treatment, which is prescribing sleep aids, is usually preceded by an evaluation. Treatments are usually administered once the cause has been established and some of these are:


  1. For children who are cranky, nothing drastic is really done. They are just comforted or if really needed, only safe medications are considered.
  2. Pregnant women who suffer from sleeplessness are advised to drink warm milk before bedtime, take a hot shower, take naps and do some light exercises.
  3. Lifestyles that condone unhealthy practices are usually advised to shift towards healthier ways.
  4. If wakefulness is due to certain ailments among children and adults alike, primary treatment of the diseases are sought to address the problem.
  5. Bright-light treatment generally prescribed to those who have difficulty sleeping at night and waking up early. This is also administered to those who sleep on time but wake up early. Melatonin treatment is also used to enhance this treatment.
  6. Sleep Apnea is a serious condition which needs attention, as it an affect a person'shealth  Use of certain devices like CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) is favored. A weight loss program in obese patients is encouraged.


  1. If sleeplessness is work related or frequent travels, a change would be ideal. If such is not possible, some practical and medical solutions may be advised. Don't hesitate to ask your doctor for natural sleep medicines you can take to help you with your sleep deprivation problem.


Most sleep problems can be addressed by simple and practical sleep deprivation treatment. Frequently discipline is all it takes to be able to sleep well. Yes, sleep deficit is a problem, but it can be solved with the right treatment. Hence, as soon as you feel yourself falling into a pattern of sleeplessness, talk to your doctor right away so he can help treat it.
