5 Inspiring reasons to study maths

Counting change in a shop, building a house, developing a mobile app - none of  these tasks can be done without mathematics. The world has changed and become  more technological, so there are new professional opportunities for those who are  passionate about the subject. We have prepared 5 out-of-the box reasons that will motivate you in your studies.

1. Mathematics is a brain stimulator
Even solving simple equations or problems with percentages develops the intellect  and makes it flexible. Systemising, analysing, reducing, identifying patterns, making  hypotheses - all these help to pump up the right skills, just like playing sports helps  to strengthen muscles and make the body more agile.

Studying rules and applying them to problems makes a person think logically and consistently,  i.e. develops the ability to reason, formulate thoughts and identify correlations. These skills  can be used not only in the classroom, but also in everyday life, for example, to choose the  cheapest mobile phone tariff or calculate how much laminate to buy for repairs.

2. Maths develops universal skills
Learning the rules isn't enough to solve maths problems; you also need attentiveness,  perseverance, accuracy and precision. This means that while you're thinking about a task,  you're also practising other skills at the same time.

3. Maths is memory training
If you want to complete a task, you'll have to remember the rules and the same  examples you've already solved before. When you practise new material, your memory  improves. Test yourself now with this free online memory test.

4. Maths helps you succeed in other subjects too
Mathematics is inseparable from physics, geography, geology, chemistry or economics.  Even in the humanities, many conclusions are based on mathematical, logical models  and laws, such as in linguistics.

5. Mathematics can be a basis for career development
Just 10 years ago, studies in foreign languages and law were considered promising, but  now the IT field is the most in-demand and maths is indispensable. Intellectual skills such as numerical intelligence, the  ability to analyse data and make non-standard decisions are highly valued and will set you apart from your competitors.

Mathematics is a versatile and useful tool, no less! There are many reasons to study  this subject, but most importantly, you can develop your thinking and other important  skills, learn to reason logically, find patterns, draw the right conclusions and have a fun time.
