A bold and visceral short film written by Imani Mullings and directed by Monty Fleurival. This project dives deep into themes of loyalty, fear, and domestic abuse. InvaZion! is a tense, emotionally charged story that follows three characters: Denaé, Fousey, and Remy as a simple robbery spirals into a life-altering moment for the trio. As film students with an immense love for raw storytelling, we're pushing to create something that disrupts.

The Progenitors

Hi! My name is Monty Fleurival. I am an aspiring Director from Baltimore, Maryland. I've dedicated myself to turning the unorthodox, orthodox. Through my fabricated worlds, we all may relish in reality. I'm currently the Key Gaffer for ArieCan Productions, a Baltimore-based production company. I am also rounding out my senior year at Morgan State University, (Go Bears!) and I serve as the Head of Directing and Editing as a part of our student-led organization, Underground Studios. I am also by way of Stevenson University, I spent my first two college years there. I hope to exude my passion across thousands of folks. I'm a big fan of All Elite Wrestling, and I spend my free time attending the shows!

Hi everyone! My name is Imani Mullings, a student filmmaker hailing from New York, attending the National Treasure, Morgan State University as a Screenwriting major and English minor. Go Bears! I’m humbled to be the writer for InvaZion! My favorite narrative adventures have me throwing fairytales and fables into a blender with westerns, medieval times, ancient civilizations, and anachronistic times, churning out smoothies of odd yet fantastical goodness.

At Morgan State, I serve as the Vice President for Underground Studios, our premier film organization. I also serve as the co-Executive Director of Diverso, a nonprofit organization, by students and for students, dedicated to changing the face of entertainment by empowering the next generation of underrepresented storytellers. I’m a big Red Dead franchise enthusiast and an avid The Sims 4 and Minecraft player. I love storytelling deeply, from my toes to my scalp, and I can’t wait for you all to bear witness to InvaZion!

The Inspiration

Visually, InvaZion! draws inspiration from the 90s style of Wong Kar-Wai’s Fallen Angels. But don't get it twisted, we aren't just about aesthetics. We are telling a story that doesn’t just glorify violence, but digs at the deeper nuances of abusive relationships. Many folks don't know that abusive relationships can also be verbal.

We all know what it feels like to be silenced, to be ignored. InvaZion! explores how fragile relationships can collapse under pressure, and how silence itself can become a dangerous choice.

InvaZion! follows the footsteps of Donald Glover & Janine Nabers’ Swarm with its dark humor, raw energy, and focus on the psychological unraveling of our main character, Denaé.

The Synopsis

Denaé is a trapped soul in a relationship with Fousey, her lover. Well, at least she thought he loved her. He pays for everything she wants. But in return, she must do everything he says. She wishes she could spread her wings. When Denaé meets Remy, she begins to slowly peel off Fousey's 5 year-long facadè.

InvaZion! highlights the terrifying intimacy of control, the silent nature abuse, and the pivotal moment when everything crumbles. This film is a psychological reckoning. It explores what happens when silence becomes the most dangerous response of all. Our goal is to showcase the terrifying intimacy of a moment when everything shatters and to make the audience feel that moment.

The story centers on a botched robbery. Denaé, Fousey, and Remy plan to hit what they believe is an empty house, but when the homeowner unexpectedly returns, Fousey makes a split-second decision and one simple impulsive action changes the lives of everyone.

Remy, known for her brilliant strategies, becomes tangled into a brawl with Fousey. Tensions boil over as Denaé, finally witnesses the same treatment that was done unto her. When Fousey threatens Remy’s life, Denaé is finally forced to pick a side.
