Mission Statement
The Story
Our film begins as our two main characters, Yin and Yang, gaze into their bathroom mirror ready to consume a bottle of sleeping pills to commit suicide. This is a representation of a current issue in our society. The rate of suicide has skyrocketed since 2020, and we want to begin the story with this underlying message.
Yin is the posh, girly, married, and successful professional with a picture-perfect life, who seems to always have it together to the outside world.
Yang is the outspoken, edgy, goth-dressed musician who follows her dream and refuses to follow the typical path of success.
These two are twins who were separated at a very young age due to a misunderstanding. After a moment of debating suicide in their mind, they close their eyes and wake up tied up together in chairs, back to back, in a basement. Shocked and confused, they call for help, but realize no one can hear them which causes Yang to brainstorm a plan. As Yin panics, tension and anxiety builds.
They cannot see each other, but their polar opposite personalities cause conflict. Through this forced prolonged conversation, they confront their past and discover their identity. They share a moment of feeling connected through sharing battling thoughts of suicide.
The ending - there is room for interpretation, and we have to complete the film in its entirety for you to find out! Think - suicide and mental health awareness, family conflict, social constructs, and struggles with identity with polarity - through visually edgy storytelling like Black Swan by Darren Aronofsky.

About This Team
We have a strong team to work within our goal, and every single person on the team is essential to bringing the story of Kinnected to life. Yin and Yang, estranged twins, share a similar mental struggle with thoughts of suicide, despite living entirely different lives. Our goal is to not only promote mental health awareness, but also learn how family, connection, and a sense of belonging can bridge that gap for those who are struggling and aid us in saving lives. If we meet our budget goal with your pledges, our team promises to deliver the incentives, and finish the project in totality before March of 2024 to submit to film festivals.

Deanna Pak is the Writer, Actress, and Executive Producer of Kinnected. She plays the characters, Yin and Yang. Deanna has acted in television shows, movies, and commercials [Credits: Fatal Attraction, The Resident, Bronx SIU]. She has also written and produced original short films and web series. She loves to laugh.
Marlo Su is the Producer of Kinnected. She also plays Yin & Yang’s body double. Marlo is an accomplished actress in film, theatre, and voice [Credits: People Magazine Investigates, American Gangster: Trap Queens, audiobooks-TBA] She speaks fluent French, English, and Spanish. She loves authentic cuisine and meeting new people.
Katz Carter is the Director of Kinnected. Katz grew up in theatre following in his father's footsteps as a stage performer. He attended film school where he fell in love with filmmaking and editing. Katz also attended The Academy of Art University, where he studied directing. He spends most of his time directing, editing, writing, and producing. [Credits: Full Method] He loves traveling and going to Disneyland.
Christopher Sheffield is the Director of Photography and Editor of Kinnected. Christopher has also directed and DP’d on several films currently in film festivals and/or distributed [Credits: Bite the Dust, Here to Stay] He loves his cats.
Tessa Murphy is the Audio Recordist for Kinnected. Tessa has worked on audio for several national commercials. She loves to write.
The Kalama Brothers are the Composers of Kinnected. They have been entertaining audiences for over 30 years with their musical variety, harmonies, humor and personalities. Ryan and Kai Kalama are songwriters and recording artists who have released 2 albums of original music; Keau in 2012, and Angels and Outlaws in 2017.
Sean-Michael Ryan is a Photographer for Kinnected. Sean has shot many photos published in articles and magazines. He is also a director, DP, and entrepreneur. He loves his beautiful husky, Seca.
James Garcia is a BTS Photographer for Kinnected. He has worked as a creator and videographer for many popular venues and shows in Los Angeles. He is also a seasoned actor and stand up comedian. He loves a good energy drink.
Tommy Wright is a Consultant for Kinnected. He is an American Writer/Actor/Director and a 2016 New Voices Sundance Alumni. Tommy previously worked on Fox networks hit show "Last Man Standing", where he has received Story By credit on multiple episodes and is a proud member of the Writers Guild Of America West.
Darian Minouei is a Production Assistant for Kinnected. He is also a filmmaker and photographer.
Brandon Batain is a Production Assistant for Kinnected. He also creates his own film projects and loves being part of a team.
Keithian is Locations for Kinnected. Keithian is also a talented music artist and filmmaker who loves the collaboration process.
