Mission Statement
The Story
The inspiration for this film comes from marrying our affinity for both 50s creature features and the campiness of 80s horror. Many movies from the 50s actually have thought-provoking or even horrific concepts, but they lacked the funds and/or cinematic language at the time to properly convey them. So in turn, they were written off as "B-movies." But we're not crazy for thinking there's merit to these concepts! Some directors from the past that have noticed this potential are David Cronenberg (The Fly), John Carpenter (The Thing), and even James Cameron (Aliens).
That’s why we truly believe that through the right lens, through OUR lens, we can take a concept as silly as William Castle’s The Tingler and reinvent it for modern audiences.
Lean into the silliness, but double down on the horror.
Another element that drew us to this concept were the parallels between mental health and the creature. In the film, only a scream can save your life. But think about it… how often do you openly express your emotions? The creature allows us to comment on the dangers of chronically dismissing your emotions, as well as the negative effects of toxic masculinity.
A lot of the fun of In Case of Fear stems from the world in which it takes place. Taking a note from movies with ambiguous time periods like It Follows and Poor Things, we’re leaning into an 80s aesthetic, but pairing it with pseudo-science. So in our world, holographic video calls co-exist alongside retro-tech, like sparking Tesla coils and glowing vials of ooze.
As for casting, it’s hard to say with any level of certainty who we can cast because so much of it relies on how much we raise. But the hope is to land modern, rising talent like Johnny Berchtold for the leads, and the dream is to get horror legends for our doctors. Someone like Jeffrey Combs to pay direct homage to our inspirations, or even snagging Tim Curry as our professor on the video call.

WE DON'T HAVE TO TELL YOU; filmmaking is expensive. Between paying actors and crew, feeding them, location rentals, lighting gear, camera rentals, set dressing, post production... the list goes on. Trust us. And that's why we need your help. After self-funding several smaller projects, In Case of Fear is the next step in our career. We are pulling every favor and tapping every resource we have to make a film that truly showcases our skills and talents.

What Happens After Production?
After we complete production and post, we set our sights on film festivals! Specifically, we'll be submitting to genre fests that love to illuminate horror films with a strong identity. Our plan is to get into festivals like Toronto After Dark, FantasticFest, Sundance Midnight Shorts, Screamfest, Austin Film Fest, FilmQuest, and even internationally with Clermont-Ferrand.
An additional part of our exhibition that we're amped about is having the ability to include an Audio Descriptive (AD) track for the visually impaired. Working alongside our collaborator Alex Howard (The Dark Room Podcast, RespectAbility), we will be writing and recording the track to ensure that ALL film lovers can enjoy this goofy, visual feast.
Production is planned to happen Mid-November, and then post will take us into the new year. But we can't publicly post the movie on YouTube right away, otherwise it will disqualify us from most festivals. BUT we have a solution! Anyone who donates under the Nyctophobia: Fear of the Dark incentive or higher gets an exclusive digital screener of the film. So you'll be able to see it before anyone else!

The Story
