The Story
Our story unfolds in the quiet tension of a late night in New York City. Elliott, a former runner grappling with chronic illness, finds himself trapped in memories of his intense and complicated relationship with David. As he searches for clues to his partner's disappearance, he’s forced to confront the pain, co-dependency, and toxic intimacy that defined their bond. While piecing together fragments of their past, Elliott forms an unexpected connection with David’s abandoned pet rat—offering him a small but profound moment of tenderness. A Slice of Pie explores the struggle for self-acceptance, the weight of physical and emotional scars, and the thin line between love and harm.

There is a special cruelty and losing all your athletic abilities to an invisible chronic illness as a runner. That is what Elliott has to face at the age of 22. He has spent his life depending on his body to achieve things just to end up despising it more than anything.
A Slice of Pie is a queer short horror film set in New York City. It is a story about self-harm, but also about reconnecting with your own body, a body that is imperfect and scarred, a body still worthy of love. This screenplay holds a special place in my heart as I still carry the scars of the deep hate I felt towards myself, the punishments that I have put myself through using food and sharp objects. A Slice of Pie aims to shed light on the horror of having a body that doesn’t function the way you need it to, the isolation of feeling rotten and unlovable.

This film is meant as a message of hope, a love letter to anyone who feels unworthy of love. There is connection and healing to be found in the exploration of our deepest, darkest fears. There is power in staring these feelings ‘in the face’ and refusing to give in, refusing to direct the hate inwards. If you are reading this, thank you for being here. This film is for you.

Pre-production is underway for this short film. We are actively crewing up and casting the film, designing props, and scheduling.
We are looking to raise $5400 directly through Seed & Spark in order to cover the minimum costs of production. We have a combination of experience shooting scrappy no- and low-budget films, and have had multiple prior successes raising funds and delivering on projects through this method. We are an international cast of crew passionate about bringing this story to life and we just need your help to make it happen! All the costs will go towards the production (insurance, props, food, make-up) and post-production (editing, color-grading) of this short film.
If we raise beyond our goal, this will allow us to expand our resources throughout post-production and release through more professional sound mixing, music composition, and film festival submission fees (which aren't a lot on their own but add up over time!)
Principal photography will occur in New York City in May of 2025.

Sharing our campaign is the most impactful thing you can do outside of donating. Please give our project a follow on this page and on social media and send it to your friends!
