Have you ever felt torn between responsibilities and personal fulfillment? This is the reality of Abner, our Protagonist, in this drama comedy about finding one’s identity within their culture.

Summary:

After years of neglecting his family and Latino heritage, Abner made a guilt-ridden promise to his mother to take care of his aging Uncle George. Now, Abner no longer has time to pursue his own interests—art, job, or especially a relationship. He's stuck.

While out searching for a special gift for his Uncle, Abner has a chance encounter with Winnie, a head strong woman with a mission of her own. This potential connection is dampened once they reach for the same gift! Desperate, Abner steals the item for himself, thinking he needs it more.

Abner delivers the gift to his Uncle George at his local nursing home. Upon delivery, instead of feeling accomplished, Abner is mortified to see Winnie standing there—furious. Turns out, Uncle George manufactured their encounter, hoping there’d be a spark, but not just for superficial reasons. Winnie dreams of becoming a doctor but doubts she has the gumption. She's chosen to resign herself to work as George's nurse.

George believes these two confused wayfarers can find their path—together.

A Story About Love is a hilarious and touching film about love, family, and a reminder that tradition is never really an anchor, but a launching pad.

Versions of this story have been tumbling in my head for many years now but it only materialized after the inclusion of the Uncle George character.

Uncle George is inspired by my real life Grand Uncle. He passed away before we met but I was told my entire life that he was a man known for his kindness. I never anticipated I'd include George's memory in this story until, by happenstance, I was thinking about him during a writing session and it just made sense. George, both the film character and the real one, bring clarity in a sea of confusion. In my own journey to rediscover my heritage, George's inclusion seemed like the perfect 'X' factor to round out this story.

More broadly: it comes as no surprise to anyone that we are in polarizing times in our country. Latino and Hispanic culture have been unfairly denigrated by the powers that be. A Story About Love was conceived to add more positive, productive representations of Latino and Hispanic culture to the zeitgeist. This is a film about love in all its forms: Romantic, Familial, and Self—elements that are never outdated and are needed now more than ever.

A Story About Love blends drama and comedy to create a heartfelt punch-to-the-gut film about Latino culture and family. To capture the feeling of euphoric love, the look of the film will pull from classic films with an angelic aura aesthetic. This look, along with overlapping dialogue shots, will capture the intimacy and vulnerability of Abner, Winnie, and Uncle George.

A Story About Love will run approximately 15-20 minutes long and will be filmed over the course of Five days. A few locations have either already been confirmed or are well along in the negotiation process.

This is our projected timeline but this is filmmaking, anything can change! With the emergence of the Super El Niño, Southern California is poised to withstand a barrage of rainfall in the tailend of to year. Our team is working every day to beat the weather while remaining flexible in case of an act of God!
