Mission Statement
The Story
Miranda can hear what the town says about her - and the length of time she gives to each life. Their fear, pleas and disdain don't sink in. She shuts down to keep the natural order in balance. But on this walk home, something changes, something shifts with a quiet request from one man. Can she find a way to feel compassion but not be persuaded to change Fate?
MIRANDA - The stoic Fate who measures the length of a life (Jeanine Bartel, our lead character)
CASSANDRA - The nurturing Fate who weaves the lives into being (Jenilyn Rodriguez)
TITANIA - A mysterious woman with wounds and no memory of what happened (Victoria Hay)
BRADY - The theater manager pushing Fate toward a dangerous line (Josue Ledesma)
TOMMY and LANIE - The school children turning Miranda into a ghost story (Samuel Dunayer, Allegra Francesca Cimino)
JOHNSON - The man who changes it all (Franco Pistritto)

I'm a narrative filmmaker with an experimental heart. In "A Walk with Fate", I'll push my own creative boundaries by combining magic realism, surrealism, and neo-realism. To create the feel of walking along with Miranda, the camera will never stop but neither is it one long POV shot. In fact, the point of view of the film will switch half-way through and then switch back - creating a sense of uncertainty and ethereal awe as we move from dream state to reality. We'll be using different lenses to capture this feeling as it happens on set. But reality is where this tale is rooted and for that reason my characters and their hopes carry the story. Through metaphor, we invite the audience to interpret our film with their life experiences, make it their own and relate on a deeply personal level. It isn't all heavy though! Our characters are full of life, humor, and steadfast individual views on what the Fates should or shouldn't be doing.
To emphasize the unknown nature of Fate, we're filming on an historical site that is weathered, overgrown and windy, removing a layer of comfort and laying everyone, and their emotions, bare. Governors Island is situated in the New York Harbor with recorded history spanning from the Lenape people through the Revolutionary and Civil Wars to the vibrant arts community it is today. The script was written with this location in mind, and its ancient echoes are the perfect place to find the Fates.
As a storyteller, I focus on characters embarking on a solo emotional journey of healing. As a filmmaker I like to frame that path out of the dark wood by mixing genres (magic realism/neo-realism) and by using visual devices such as windows, tableaux or reflections to give subtext to their narrative. Everything I do is deeply personal, wrapped in a mythical skin.
JULY 2025 - Script complete, main cast on board, pre-production began
AUGUST 2026 - Location secured, further cast and crew search
SEPTEMBER 2026: Launch Seed & Spark, pre-production continues
OCTOBER 2026: Principal photography, post-production begins
NOVEMBER 2026: Post-production, Supporter rewards arrive
DECEMBER 2026/JANUARY 2027: Kick-off our festival run
The budget for "A Walk with Fate" is $4,000 and focuses primarily on the people who will bring this story to life. We don't have the need to rent or purchase equipment; therefore, we can focus on compensating our wonderful cast and crew, feeding them, and giving them the perfect wardrobe and vintage props to step into their characters and capture it all on film. An overview of our budget is below, and extra details can be found on our Wish List page.
We need to reach at least 80% to get funded. ~ And if we're able to raise $1200 in our first week, we'll be considered for additional funding via the Patrons Circle here on Seed&Spark! ~ Should we exceed our goal, the Fates will dance 'til dawn, and we'll put those funds toward Film Festival entries and travel, and anything unforeseen that pops along the way (as it often does).

About This Team
We've been telling stories together for two decades. Each time I can come back together with Victoria Hay (Titania), Jeanine Bartel (Miranda) and Jenilyn Rodriguez (Cassandra) I know I can push my boundaries as a narrative storyteller, and they'll jump right into the idea. We know each other like family, finish each other's sentences and have carried these characters and their journeys with us for a long time. They're each actors/writers/producers/directors in their own right - Victoria is finishing her first book; Jenilyn is the founder of the Meliora Film Festival; and Jeanine's talent spans from audio to screen to stage on a regular basis. They are my co-conspirators and creative sisters and I couldn't ask for better partners. (photo above from 2010)
Lisa Stock (Writer, Director, Producer - and a few other hats), is an award-winning filmmaker and photographer based in New York City. Called “a skillful alchemist at work” by Faerie Magazine, her films have been featured in festivals and screenings around the world, aired on PBS, and chosen as a Project of the Day on Kickstarter. Recently nominated for Best Short t the Big Apple Film Festival (for Baguette), she is the recipient of the 2024 Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women Photographers (Foto Nostrum) in Storytelling non-pro for “Calypso Comes to Shore”, and the Silver winner of La Prixe de la Photographie Paris 2024 for non-pro Series for “No Good Deed”. Her work combines the spontaneity of myth & magic with stark reality to paint vibrant portraits of healing and personal truth.
