With the saturation of big budget movie and franchise fatigue, independent film is important now more than ever. We are a group of young filmmakers from Philadelphia who want to share our passion with the world and provide a platform for actors with disabilities.

Mission Statement

In this film two family friends meet for lunch after not seeing each other for a year, but one thinks it's a date. With this dynamic we are able to explore the complexities that come with relationships and friendships, and how sometimes personal dreams can cause them to fall apart.

The Story

After creating the short film My First Shot (2021), writer/director Alex Nicoletti and actor Nate Seagraves team up to tell another very personal story. A Date With a Loved One is a coming of age film that follows two long time family friends having an intimate discussion about their lives, while trying to balance the line between friendship and romance. We will be shooting at a restaurant in Philadephia for five straight days with a cast and crew of 15 people in late June 2022.

Goals

We hope that by joining our fundraising campaign, your pledge will help our film reach the widest audience. After completing A Date With a Loved One we will be submitting to film festivals around the world, sharing our story with as many people as possible. Your contribution will also go towards renting a theater and formating the film for the big screen so we can arrange a private screening for cast, crew, and our Seed and Spark supporters, as well as the the printing and shipping of stickers/posters, feeding cast and crew, and renting the location and film equipment.

For the audience, we aspire to give you an experience you can reflect and grown on, as we did during production. We hope you enjoy watching this film as much as we enjoy making it!

Quotes

"This movie means so much to me as an actor and a person. This movie is a lot like my life so far. I want people to watch this movie and see that my life is just like theirs. I have feelings, hopes, and dreams. In this film I get to put a lot of myself into the role. The audience will see that, and I hope it leaves an impression on them. I have friends that I love. I went to college, and I have a wonderful life. Being an actor gives me a lot of satisfaction."

"I'm excited to work on this film because as an artist of many emerging from this pandemic, I completely empathize with feeling displaced and yearning for meaning and opportunity in my craft. This character is finding her footing again after taking the leap of faith we all need."

- Madeleine Gracia

"We are absolutely thrilled for our son Nate to be involved with this new project. This is Nate’s second short film, and this one is so special because it speaks to Nate’s actual life experiences. Nate has accomplished so much in his 26 years, things that we never thought possible when he was born. We feel strongly that it is important for others to see that there are indeed no limits for people with disabilities. This short film illustrates this in an uplifting way.

The film’s writer/director, Alex Nicoletti, has crafted a script that portrays Nate as a person with hopes and dreams just like his typical-developing peers. Part of the script calls for Nate to speak from his heart about what it meant to him to graduate from college, an accomplishment that we are all tremendously proud of. He also talks about his desire for a loving relationship – something that every person seeks.

Nate currently has three part-time jobs, but acting is his passion. He works hard to learn his lines and speaks them with emotion. He takes an incredible amount of pride in being in Alex’s film. We hope that people who watch this film see that the sky is the limit for Nate and other actors with disabilities."

- Carolyn Seagraves

COVID-19 Production Policy

In order to ensure the safety of our cast and crew, we will be taking a number of COVID-19 safety precautions. Mask wearing will be required when on set, regardless of vaccination status. Additionally, we will require each member of our time to submit a negative COVID-19 test result at least two days before the start of production. Lastly, we will require social distancing on set (when possible) for our team as well as using disinfectant wipes on equipment and other high touch point surfaces at the start of each production day.
