Mission Statement

Adventure Date! is created by and brought to life by a group of female filmmakers. We are excited to tell a very specific story about one of very specific woman's bad date. A woman as interesting and strange as the women you likely know in real life. Our team is committed to hiring an inclusive crew

The Story

THE STORY

The Summary: After being expelled from a Quilting MFA program, Susan goes on a tinder date adventure that ends up going terrible wrong...

(poster by Maddie Fischer!)

Susan is your average single 30 something New Yorker. She loves adventure. She goes on dates with strangers on the internet. She's dabbling in witchcraft.

She's excited for her date with Jonathan because, according to his profile, he loves adventure too! What are the odds?!?

They embark on a bike trip through City Island. Everything is going great...

until everything is going terribly wrong.

WHY THIS STORY?

Adventure Date! is an electric comedy-horror adventure! It follows one woman's experiences with witchcraft, dating, graduate school, anxieties, and finding herself. This story is important because it's about a strong, complex, nuanced female character as she navigates the choices of her life and her own sense of personal autonomy.

WHO WE ARE

WHY US?

Whether she is starring in national commercials or award winning indie films, Lucy Cottrell brings her unique sensibility, a humor equal parts bizarre and vulnerable, to every project. In her stand up, she utilizes comedy to speak openly about mental health. In her first foray into filmmaking, Adventure Date!, embodies everything that is delightful and off-kilter about Lucy. To execute her vision and bring this film to life, she has partnered with director Ginny Leise and producer Callie Hanau.

And you can read more about us on our team page!

Why this? You need a reason? We got a bunch!

1. This is a team of all women filmmakers! Statistics for the representation of women in film are pretty bleak--you can read more about that here. You can read about our team on our team page!

2. Adventure Date! is an exhilarating combination of genres! And we're over the moon thrilled to utilize these larger genres to explore the themes of self discovery, anxiety, and romantic love. This is a chance to make something strange and wonderful!

3. Adventure Date! stars a complex female protagonist!! Here you can read more about the limited way women are often portrayed on screen and the way that affects our real world.
