The Story
Hi, I’m Caroline, the writer and director of After Her Pill, and I’m honored to share this story with you.
Abortion is a heavy subject, and understandably so. But what happens emotionally after the decision is made is often harder to name. I became interested in that space between certainty and grief, between knowing why you made a choice and still being surprised by the emotions that follow it.
After Her Pill lives in that aftermath.
The film follows a woman named Rosie, trying to understand what she feels while her body is still recovering and the world around her seems to expect clarity. She can believe the decision was right and still grieve. She can feel relief, doubt, love, loss, shame, tenderness, and uncertainty without any one of those feelings canceling out the others.
That contradiction is what drew me to this story.
I’m interested in the emotional experiences women are often expected to carry quietly, especially the ones that resist simple explanations. With this film, I want to make room for those feelings without deciding what they are supposed to mean. This is not a political statement or an argument about what someone should choose. It is a plea for empathy toward a person living through something deeply private, physical, and emotionally complicated.
As a writer and director, I’m drawn to the parts of women’s lives that are difficult to articulate, the thoughts that stay unspoken, and the emotional consequences that do not always arrive in a clean or predictable way.
We have an incredible group of collaborators who believe in this story and in treating it with care. Our hope is to create a film that allows Rosie’s experience to remain complicated, intimate, and fully human.
Thank you for considering After Her Pill and for giving us the opportunity to share it with you. We hope to see you on the other side of the screen.
