After Hours is a deeply personal story that reflects the importance of family in all of its forms- both the ones we are born into and those we find in our lives. At it’s heart, this story explores the search for connection and acceptance, a journey that resonates with many but is often overshadowed by the more typical-traditional family narratives. For me, the concept of ‘found family’ has always held a special place in my heart. From working in the service industry myself, it showed me a new meaning to family. ‘Found family’ highlights how love, trust, and support can come from an unexpected person/people in our lives, and sometimes they’re more reliable than our blood family.
Petra and Walker’s relationship is inspired by the one that I have with my own brothers at work. (Shown below) This relationship represents the duality of real and chosen family, a bond that isn’t by blood but by a shared understanding and mutual compassion. As Petra grapples with the absence of her biological father and the complex emotions that follow, she finds Walker, that family figure that embodies stability and trust she’s yearned for. It’s a story that reminds us that family can be both a gift and a journey, and it’s one that I feel compelled to tell.
In this film, I hope to capture a piece of my own journey and invite the audience to see an aspect of life that often goes unspoken - the quiet resilience of those who create their own path towards family and belonging. My hope is that After Hours will open hearts and minds to the idea that family is less about labels and more about finding those who lift us up when we need it the most.
Now here's a bit about the story...
Petra, a young bartender with a chip on her shoulder, is barely holding it together on her night shift at the local dive bar. Distracted by unanswered messages to her estranged father, she juggles clumsy mistakes, unruly customers, and the watchful eye of Walker, the bar’s tough, no-nonsense owner. Every time Petra stumbles, Walker is there to reprimand her, but he begins to notice her quiet struggle.
After a particularly chaotic glass shatter behind the bar, Walker pulls Petra into his office to bandage her wound. What starts as scolding, turns into an unexpected honest conversation, he gently questions her motives and mistakes. For the first time, Petra lets her guard down sharing her familial disappointments. Walker, not as hardened as he seems, offers subtle advice drawn from his life experiences, surprising Petra with this insight.
Through tense conversation and silent understanding, the two start to navigate their own demons, building a fragile, unspoken bond. By the end of the shift, both find a quiet strength in each other’s presence. Sometimes the most unexpected connections can give us a reason to keep going, even in the dim glow of an almost forgotten bar.
To get you a bit excited about the film, here is a sizzle reel to get you all pumped!

The BIG Plan!
So as the Director of "After Hours" it is my biggest goal to make sure every donation is handled with the upmost care. Once our goal is reached, we will ensure every aspect of production receives the funds they need to be successful. By making sure each part of production is well funded, it will ensure that our crew is able to create a film that we can all be proud of. We plan on shooting the second weekend in February so the clock is ticking! Since I am a Senior at SCAD Atlanta, this is my capstone film and I cannot wait to see the final product but we can't get there without your help!
