IDAHO WILL CELEBRATE 124 YEARS OF VOTING RIGHTS FOR WOMEN IN 2020.
This is her story
Why Idaho?
- What were the factors that led the men of our state to such a progressive conclusion 24 years before the rest of the nation?
- What were the arguments for and against women’s suffrage in Idaho?
- Who were the leaders -- the path breakers -- of the movement?
- How did they overcome the geographic and demographic obstacles they faced?
What was the impact?
- How did the passage of women’s suffrage impact the political, social and cultural landscape?
- How has this head start benefited our state?
Who are today's path breakers and leaders?
- Who are today’s women leaders and path breakers?
- Are Idaho women paying it forward, as early suffragists had hoped, by leading reforms of their own and “spreading the light of freedom and truth"?
- What do we owe the women who fought for the right to vote and equality in Idaho? How do we honor them?
Why this film?
This documentary is a part of the Idaho Women 100 a statewide collective effort to commemorate and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution that grew from a conversation between Idaho Women in Leadership and the Idaho Historical State Society. Idaho Women in Leadership (I-WIL) took the lead in creating this women's suffrage documentary and was joined by Idaho Public Television to produce it as part of the Idaho Experience underwritten by J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation.
I-WIL is supporting the creation of this documentary because we want to recognize the women whose early leadership makes it possible for more women to assume leadership positions. Their “courageous past” creates an “unlimited future” for the next generation of women leaders. We are a statewide organization and look forward to sharing inspiring stories of women around the state.
Jennie Sue Weltner, an award winning videographer who has been working on the Idaho Experience, was brought on to helm this documentary, providing a passionate woman's perspective to every aspect of this project.
