A group of misfits, who have been chatting online, believe there may be an alien apocalypse coming…on Monday! They decide to finally meet in person, go into a bunker, and wait it out together. In the process, they discover the family they didn’t know they needed.

Mission Statement

As a human race, we seem to be more divided than ever. Whether that wedge be politically, socially, religiously, or economically driven…we are barreling away from each other at an alarming rate. I wanted to explore a story in which the characters’ vast differences are what ultimately unites them.

The Story

What’s the story?

A group of social misfits (like myself), whose highlight of the day is to chat with each other online about alien conspiracies, decide to finally meet in person, go into a bunker together, and document their experience of waiting for the impending alien invasion…which they believe is coming on Monday. It turns out they couldn’t be more different from one another. But despite their differences, they come to form an unlikely family.

In the tradition of those hilarious Christopher Guest films like Waiting For Guffman and Best In Show, the dialogue will be 100% improvised.

In fact, if Christopher Guest’s WAITING FOR GUFFMAN and Jordan Peele’s NOPE had a film baby, it would be this film…baby.

What’s the point?

I wanted to explore what would happen if a group of people, from a veritable rainbow of backgrounds and identities, came together to create an unlikely family unit. What would that look like? Is it even possible? I believe it is.

Why now?

Not to be a downer…but we live in such a deeply divisive time. Whether the wedge is driven by political leanings, socio-economics, religious views, or how we identify, we are barreling away from each other at an alarming and disturbing rate.

But I believe that it’s those individual little peculiarities, those beautiful quirks and eccentricities, which simultaneously individualize and unite us by leveling the playing field. Because we all have them.

And I believe that it’s our duty as storytellers, now more than ever, to tell stories that unite rather than divide.

…Okay…stepping down off my soap box.

What’s the vibe?

This will be a highly irreverent dark comedy. Full disclosure…it will likely not be for the young kiddos. With that said…while we certainly will be portraying some wonderfully eccentric characters, and while there is definitely plenty of comedy to be mined from that, I never want to treat that as low hanging fruit. It’s of the utmost importance to me that we are never using those quirks and eccentricities as the butt of a joke. But rather as a way in to connect with these people.

Why me?

Another full disclosure…this will be my first feature. So why should you trust me? I can’t promise you that I’m the best director in the world. I mean…heck…I might be. You never know.

But I don’t know that yet.

So what can I promise you…?

Well…I can promise you that I will be surrounding myself with all of the right people, who know what they’re doing, and who can fill in the blanks and make up for my shortcomings (of which I’m sure there are many). I’m a firm believer in collaboration, leaving my ego at the door, and listening to others.

Also…as a gay man living in a red state, I know a thing or two about putting my politics aside in order to find common ground with some lovely human beings, who just happen to fall on the other side of the political aisle from myself. It’s never productive to judge folks based on their political leanings. There is so much more to people than that.

How can you help?

$15,000 is our goal. In the world of film making, this would be considered pennies. But to me, it’s a hell of a lot of money. And I do not take that lightly. But we also cannot do this without the generosity of creative supporters like yourself.

And we plan to make that $15,000 go a looooong way. It will be put towards both paying and feeding our incredible (and very hungry) cast and crew, renting gear, production design, and even a good portion of our post production.

So if you have the means to donate, we would be forever grateful to you for helping us make this a reality.

But whether or not you are able to donate, if you think that what we’re trying to do is worth doing, please help us get the word out to as many folks as possible. As they say…it takes a village. And we need a big ass village. So if you can post a link to your friends and family on whichever social platform you enjoy, we would be eternally grateful to you.

Thank you so much for your time and your consideration. And we hope to share our little film baby with you in the (fingers crossed) not too distant future.

Stretch Goals

There are two areas which we could definitely use some extra help.

  1. We would love to reach out to some more widely known comedic talent to add to our already incredible cast.
  2. While we will certainly be approaching festivals to get this film out there, our intention is to put together a marketing package which we will utilize to try to find a streaming home for this film. So if we surpass our 100% funded goal, we plan to use additional funds towards our marketing budget.

I love you already, just for reading this. But I will love you so hard if you share this campaign with all your people!!!

About This Team

Geoffrey Davin (writer/director/actor)

Well hey there! My name is Geoffrey Davin and I’m the writer and director (and also one of the actors) of ALIENS ARE COMING!! ON MONDAY!!!!

I’ve spent most of my career as an actor…having appeared in such projects as WOMEN OF THE MOVEMENT (ABC), HOLLAND, MI (w/ Nicole Kidman), and DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF (Lifetime), among others. In fact, I’ve been acting professionally since I was 14 years old. So while I am relatively new to directing, I feel like my career has lead me to this point. And I am certainly no stranger to being on set. I plan to pull from my best (and worst) experiences with directors, to give me a great jumping off point as to how to run an efficient and happy set. A happy set is a creative and efficient set.

Whitni Resides (Producer/Incandescent Pictures)

When I was thinking about who I wanted to partner with on this project, there truly was no contest. I have known Whitni for a couple of years now, having appeared in her short film BLOWOUT. And she is the perfect mix of warmth, grace, professionalism, intelligence, integrity, and has a deep understanding of what it means to be a creative soul. When she agreed to take on this quirky little project, I was truly over the moon. And I’m sincerely looking forward to this collaboration with her.
