SYNOPSIS
"All the Boys I Blocked" is a feminist coming of age story...at 30.
Chanel & the Circus opens the show with confidence and pizazz - singing and clowning but quickly has a mental breakdown about their lack of success with love...not to worry! Their soulmate could be in this very room tonight! Chanel continues to "date" three audience members, sneakily hiding scripts in oversize props. The audience can see the toxicity of the people they date, but Chanel sees through the rose colored glasses of chick flicks. After losing their music career to a jealous manager, Chanel realizes they're not the only one who's been through these experiences...that women in particular have been called "crazy" throughout history for standing up for themselves, being bold, and loving fiercely. With a face full of chocolate, Chanel embraces their own strength and celebrates self love with the audience.
PRESS
"Samson’s performance was remarkably human and deeply relatable. They never let the exaggerated nature of the genre detract from the searing humanity of their performance, a clear sign of a master clown."
-Colleen Hammond, Onstage Pittsburgh
"They capture the trials and tribulations of relationships in ways that are so universal. A hilarious and empowering show! Bravo!"
-Rachel Troy, Hollywood Fringe
"It’s an incredible experience and Chanel is part rock star, part clown-witch and all musical god."
- Samantha Simmonds-Ronceros, Noho Arts District
WHO IS CHANEL & THE CIRCUS?

My name is Chanel Samson and I've been an artist for as long as I can remember. I've had several bands, played around the world, run a queer circus, and last year began my theater trajectory with "All the Boys I Blocked," a solo clown musical. My friend Melanie D'Andrea wrote the show with me, and through the process we discovered the importance of boundaries and self love, especially in a patriarchal world. With everything happening right now, I think it's vital to remember how to rely on each other and build community. I am so excited to go on this tour and connect with people all over the world.

Because this is a musical, I'm recording an album of songs from the show. I produced and released "Did You Know?" a song about infatuation and "White Guy" about the current political climate. I've been so lucky to have musicians and crew donate their time to the project and would love to pay my collaborators for the rest of the album and show. I'm a filmmaker so each song will have its own music video!
